I still like them but my tastes and interests are maturing and GW seems to be moving in the opposite direction.
This right here...exactly...I have always said they do their models really well...even craptastic ones like this are well developed and have great details. If they were still, at their core, a miniatures company, they would still be highly polished. However, they have become a business that sells minis which puts the craft (something they focused on in the past) behind sales (clearly, recent focus) as important, so make money first then make good models in flushing them.
Personally, They lost me when they gave the Grey Knight Termies a newer cartoony look and gave them a cradle baby robot. Those (old metal) termies are some of my all time miniatures, period. But they seem to have been the start of turning the 'grim' future into the 'grin' future (Sorry, couldn't resist).
MAXXxxx -to be completely honest power creep exists in all other games too, no exceptions.
OK, true, but I always point to Privateer Press in this way. Yes, they continue to add bigger (better?) options that change the game, but everything is on a level playing field (ok, ok...in theory). However, back in Legends, they made some broken rules...Stupid broken rules...But they knew it, addressed it, and rereleased rules for every model in MK2. Every model was looked at, and adjusted, both up AND down, to minimize the power creep. They have also stated they intend to keep every model tournament legal, and viable. This is the primary difference, as these guys, knockout many other options as viable, and playing
Old GW minis all but guarantees a midlevel score in tournies at best (NOTE: I haven't been a tournie player in quite sometime and this quote is based on the old 'army composition' score which was lower if too many old models were used. On that basis I could be wrong, just another day...)
