It's not a race Besides, as soon as I get started on those Ultra scouts the others will grind to a halt - trust. Yeah, now I'm thinking maybe have your dwarf standing on an actual dock rather than cobblestone and trolley tracks. The big fella looks like a rhino or elephant primed in grey...

Wow, I feel like a proud new papa. Was there a lot of air pockets from the casting? I can't tell how bad it is until after primed.

Not really there were a few in the gums, but they won't show and there was a hollow tooth that I filled and reattached, but really it was pretty easy to prep. Mainly just a light sanding in a few places and then I hit it all with some sandable primer. I'll give it one more look over before I start to paint just in case I missed anything, but so far so good!

Giant squig next. Trying to figure out how to show a cave without building a whole cave which would block most of the mini and make it way to big/breakable to ship.

Thinking partial outcrop and some heavy shading on the parts "in the cave" Open to suggestions...
Stopped drawing and got busy painting Dwarves. Each gets a subtle undertone that will come out later once shaded & based (i hope).

I've never been one for base coating a shade in order to undercoat something. Example: A lot of people put a dark skin tone down first, and then just paint over the whole damn thing. This works okay if you are careful to put down a very translucent layer where the under tone can come out, but this never happens by the time you are done. If I want a hint of a color to come through later, I just glaze it on later. This helps me with the economy of layers. Meaning, I like to use as few layers as possible to achieve an opaque, blended layer. This is challenging for me to do with an undercoat. This is challenging for me to do period. But then again you seem to be handy with an airbrush. My Lady Inquisitor has forbade such mechanicus in Her abode.

Cool man! You have a lot of painting to do. I like a partial arch for the Squig along with some stalagmites.

Maybe for the Canadian dwarf you could just freehand the old maple leaf. I am trying to think of a play on words with Cadians and Canadians but I am too sleepy.

That was my immediate thought as well, but using birch leaf seeds ground scatter. Lot of painting needed there though.

Only play I can come up with is Canned Adder and that's pretty damn poor!

I hear ya BFK. Sometimes i over do it and the under layers disappear, but you can bring them out with selective glazes and shades if you are careful. Red is one of the few colors that can be effected by the layers under depending on how opaque you make the red layers after. Thank Demi. I think the partial arch will work quite well if i paint it right. It was late or early DR - don't sweat it A forest theme is a good idea and that sparked another - maybe even a frozen forest like after the ice storm we had in December last year. Thanks mate!

Now I have to put him and the dwarves on hold for a bit while I concentrate on the ultramarine scouts for NOVA. I'm supposed to have them done and shipped back by Aug 1st, but I need to get it done by July 1st because The Agent of Chaos' birthday is at the end of July and I can't be distracted when The Lady Inquisitor goes into party planning mode :tremble: Pic of last years party "disaster":

Giant Squig looking good. I like the base ideas. Get some milliput and dremel it, I have been thinking about a cave style base with a nurging hanging from a stalligmite and the main mini standing on the ground above. Oh 1 extra thing needs more skullz.

I think you could do an Autumn one = a nice tree with a few maple leaves on the branch some scattered on the ground, bit of moss to green it up, a tranquil scene. . . . . AND a Puck flying through the air about to hit his head!

Toronto is an awesome place, My relatives live in London ONT not too far away. The only scar I have on my face is from CANADA. You know that in between stage of novice and AWESOME. . . . then begginer, Yep got too fast on my ice skates and dont remember much else but woke up with a split on the underside of my chin laying on the ice, a little puddle of blood with the attendants and my Aunt over me. . .Ah the days!
Now I have a line where no wiskers grow.

Ohhhhhhs and awwwwwwws all the way man. It's so weird watching. Sometimes I forget I sculpted him so seeing updates are jaw dropping. Also I would rather the lady inquisitor be happy befor me. That way we both continue living with our souls still in tack. I'm in no hurry. Looking good though

Thanks Canny, there will be quite bit of bone litter on the base of the giant squig. Does is milliput fairly tough or would i need an armature for the arch? I was going to do cork and Spackle just to keep the weight down. A tranquil scene might be nice too.
Hey Digga! I'm glad you like it so far. Surprisingly the bulk of the work is done on him. There are glazes and shades and stuff for his hide, but then its just his mouth, eyes, claws and teeth. The I have to build and paint his base. That will be the longest part of the process, but my mind is constantly working on it so it should go quickly once i actually get to work on it.

Miliput dries hard as a rock but is pretty light in my opinion. Also just a side note, his left foot is planted and taking a step with his right. It's pretty obvious to me, because its locked away in my scattered mind but not sure if I told you about it.

Oh yeah I saw that, if you look at the pics where he is green/brown there is one where you can see his underside and you'll notice two small holes drilled there in his foot for pinning later. He'll be posed with one foot up ready to stomp some squishy things! Not to worry

Ha joking I know it's Kingdom Digga. But, being 100 percent real here, the sculpt looks even more amazing with that incredible paint job. You guys should team up more often.

Sometimes I put in a color and then completely paint over it but it still helps shape my mental pallet.

I think it will come out when i start on the skin tones and if not i'll just glaze those bastards back in and mix them into all my subsequent colors Also the pic is kind washed out and from the wrong angle. i didn't actually cover them as much as it looks like i did.
