Zab's Damn it to hell! WIP

I think it will come out when i start on the skin tones and if not i'll just glaze those bastards back in and mix them into all my subsequent colors :p Also the pic is kind washed out and from the wrong angle. i didn't actually cover them as much as it looks like i did.

I am interested to see how this works out. I have considered doing something similar before, but my subsequent layers are always to opaque. I think that, if you want the undertone to bleed through, make sure you aren't using a base or foundation paint. Find one that is very translucent. Something along the lines of those Minitaire ghost inks you have had your eyes on lately, but earthier.

What always turns me off with undercoating is how GW presents it. Put a basecoat of dark flesh down, then paint over 99 percent of this, leaving only the deepest shadows. What??!!

Finished up all the faces of the scouts today. I'll save you the tedium of posting all of them, but here is Telion basecoated/finished.

Lovely stuff Zab he looks great. You could Push the contrast a bit more, if you wanted you know when you have got it and it just pops that little bit more.

On a side note what is the matching colour in secret weapon washes I need to replace Nuln Oil and Seraphim Sepia, my wonderful little girl decided to help me do some painting on her self and the floor. I would love to get em all but cant bring my self to at the mo, My lady would not be pleased.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty happy with the skin so I'm going to leave him. He's just for a table top army for NOVA and so far he's well above that standard already. I have to keep reminding myself: DEADLINE, YOU HAVE A DEADLINE - MOVE ON. Canny here is a good comparison of the SW washes...

I think heavy body black is closest to nuln oil and it looks like flesh wash is closest to seraphim sepia. You might need to cut both with a medium to get the same properties as with the Citadel stuff. SW washes a quite a bit thicker - somewhere between an ink and the classic wash. DO NOT cut them with water, they seem to separate quite badly when thinned with water - makes for some cool FX and tide marks, though (may use that for the next time I do a marble pattern). Oh, and they seem to dry quite glossy. A good alternative might be army painter washes or vallejo washes if you aren't planning on sealing with a matte varnish or adding a matte medium.

Thanks Zab, I have mainly Vallejo paint so I guess I could try some of their washes. I might buy a few SW ones to check out also. Was doing my Video tonight after pouring the resin, and looking at the video I see a hair on him I will have to reshoot the footage and try again.

~sigh~ back to the cave to work on the rest of the details... soooo busy at work with new shows for the fall... daughter got a urinary tract infection on mothers day (worst. gift. ever.) I got a sun burn and heat stroke doing yard work because i was stressed out about my kid and didn't wear a hat or sun screen; at this point I am actually looking forward to crawling under the cottage with all the spiders on Friday to turn on the water :beat-up:

Well they look darn clean.

For the UTI I recommend cranberry juice.

I hate to say it, but, maybe some cream or khaki either on the arm or leg fabric? Once you get going it's easier then the details and you can give it a sepia wash and call it done?

Sorry to hear about life's road bumps they can certainly slow you down. I salute you on the discipline it takes to do the batch painting, I never could

Sorry to here about your daughter Zab. As for the sun burn, move down to Florida and you will get used to living to a 24/7 burnt flesh feeling. Aloe works. Anyways squad is shaping up nicely and like Wargamer said nice discipline. I couldn't sit still long enough to do what your doing :) Thumbs up to you my friend.

Thanks gang! Eventually i will paint the fabric with either the classic cream or a much cooler toned white. it just depends on what the bases will look like. I believe MR Justin from secret weapon will be sending them out soon. I think they are snow themed due to the minis being part of the polar defence of Maccragge. Fabric and armour will both be the last treated and then everything may get a gentle black lining just to make it all pop before the chipping and weathering.

He actually looks like he is wearing the "armored panties" we were issued my last time in Afghanistan. Because so many of us were getting our junk blown off, or were high leg amputees and thus bled out, they started to issue sets of armored panties. Basically, first it was like a set of boxers, but with two pockets in them that fit ballistic inserts. These protected the arteries on the inner thigh that tend to retract when the leg is blown off. Then, on top of all this and worn outside of your pants was a Kevlar diaper of sorts. It's main job was to keep the prize package intact in the case of an explosion. Anyway...ha, it looks like he is wearing this diaper.

As an aside to my aside, I've pulled gnarly pieces of shrapnel out of the diaper....twice.

Thanks for taking those risks for the rest of us BFK. Not sure I'd have the courage to do that (says the guy who used to be a sponsored skater and snowboarder). I actually had a recruiter from the Canadian armed forces tell me not to apply even though my mark were great, but I clearly had issues with authority and they didn't like all my tattoos o_O I was weirded out that they were so picky.

So is Mr Justin sending you painted bases? What exactly is this project for again? I saw you said something about Nova, but I didn't quite catch what that was. Sorry if this was already covered.

If they are on snow a really light grey might work well for the fabric. Like Wehrmacht snow camo or the vehicles in the Empire Strikes Back.

Not painted, but we get some cool custom resin bases from him and his snow making kit to work with too. Then we all coordinate what colors to paint them so they match and you get a cohesive army done by 14 separate people. The army is raffled off to raise money for charity. I'll have a post on my blog about it Friday with a bunch of links you can check out for more information too if you like. I am leaning more towards he cooler tones than the classic cream but I still have to wait to see what colors are going to be used on the bases and how much snow will be present, which is fine because I have ton of details to paint up first. Also not sure what kind of winter camo to put on the scouts cloaks, again I'll burn that bridge when I get to it :p
