Notice the white center to the sun and the white ring around the count our of earth. And then the red ring around the sun, more vague and less defined.

Looks really nice. The reflection on the visor is super cool. Well done!
I agree that you could sharpen up the sun a bit. Do a google image search for 'sunrise from outer space' for some good examples. Of course when shown at scale with the full scene it may all be so small it doesn't matter. So you be the judge.

Okay, thanks guys! Sounds like I am on the right track. I just need to have a couple of quiet hours to really concentrate on doing the finer parts of the visor. I will absolutely get it crisper and get that white band. I think the challenge will be to make it bright but not cartoony or like the paint is too thick. May require some quality bourbon to get in the right frame of mind. 
On the white suits I was trying to use one of Bailey's recipes. He was kind enough to give me some coaching too, (Thanks Bailey!) but my I over did it with the air brush on one of my lighter colors and filled in some of the shadows. No matter, i just need to go back in with the real brush.

Oh yes definitely on the right track. I don't think I said it enough, or it may have got overshadowed by the advice I was offering. The visor looks freaking incredible. Just trying to help make that 9.5 a 10.

I'm with you bud. I want to try these water techniques everyone seems to be able to crank out flawlessly but when I do that's probably the only kind of base you will see me do lol.

With you guys on trying out new things (but not sex with dudes kind of new things). Work outside of that comfort zone. Make mistakes- fix them and become a better artist.

Magnification can be helpful too. I have some 4x reading glasses that are too much to actually paint in, they make me cross-eyed for hours after, but they are great for checking my work as I go. Also tackling NMM seems to force you too consolidate your skills. You have to use a light source, you have to have decent blends, and you have to get comfortable working small.
I was staring at this guys blog for an hour yesterday: http://mirko-cavalloni.blogspot.it/ Particularly his Tzeentch Standard Bearer WIP, It's pretty incredible with amazing NMM.
So here is the visor cleaned up:

I kind of hate you a little bit right now. That is damn fine work. Damn fine. I do feel like the visor itself need some kind of reflection to finish it off and make it feel like a reflective surface.

My 2p isleave it. Once youhave it assembled see if you need to tweek the astroid reflection to be more like the base. I could see a possible reflective glint off the two high point of the asteroids reflection. Kinda like the twotaller clouds to the right in the visor photo Zab put up.

Remarkable, with such great detail it would be easy to leave it, but a final stretch could become a genius stroke. I would try and up the lighter blurs at each side of the visor, almost over emphasise the curvature of it. If totally wrong easy cleaned before you continue. Excellent paint

I am not sure what you mean dennis. Do you mean the curvature of the visor or the planet.
I agree that it needs a little something more. I am thinking maybe some stars or a moon? Would you be able to see stars in his veiw or would you just see the sun?
Zab, I can't add any reflections or glares because the only thing to reflect is the sun, right? In the fighter pilots visor you have a nice panorama of what's around him and then the big shiny spot is the sun. I guess I could try and add some wreckage or something and paint that onto his helmet.
I am tackling the white on the space suit for now. It's funny but I probably spent 2-3 hours on the visor and now I will spend like 10 trying to get the white to look passable. I started with Bailey's white tutorial for the Gladiator here: http://powellminipainting.blogspot.com/p/painting-white.html but am switching over to the more neutral recipe for the Hockey player. Looking forward to using weathering powders on the asteroid and the dudes so I will be able to dirty them up at that stage. I think i just liked the quilting on the gladiator's pants
Oh well at least I have been able to chisel out some painting time! The red and blue anodized aluminum NMM came out quite nicely, I think. Just primary red and blue highlighted right up to white and down to near black. Have to file that away if I ever make a model car again.

Oh, here is a question for you guys: See, on his right forearm there is quite a bit of a mold line. How would you tackle that? I think I am going to try and smear some of the vallejo liquid putty right on there and brush primer it white. Any clever suggestions?
