Larger scale miniatures?

Goggle e2046 and recastors you'll see plenty of examples. Especially off anime garage kit boards, where it is considered a good thing to have bought from recasters and they are openly called what they are in those forums. You'll see that e2046 does a LOT of anime recasting, garage kit recasting and prepainted statue recasting.

Also, on e2046's own forums ...they actively ask their customers to send in new kits for them to recast.

They are pretty much one of the biggest recasters in the world, so it's impossible to list everything they recast. They are very well known in the garage kit communities as well as the above mentioned communities.

Just as one example, PK Kings stuff is very popular for them to recast, so much so he had to put up a plea on his website for people to not buy the recast figures. So he could, you know, actually make money from his own sculpts.

anything that's not ORI or prepainted plastic / nendoroid. :)

but the quality is top and as there is no other way to get most of the kits I find them quite ok.

I don't get this hate for recasters.
Most do exactly what's needed. Getting OOP/limited figures that have been abandoned by the original companies back to the market. But the anime-kit community can be even more snobbish as we are with the limited figures that some of us think as investment.
As for the few that's ongoing product copied to be cheaper (GW, FW, KD, Infinity, mentioned PKKing, ...): you as buyer should decide if you want to back the original creator or the recaster and simply not buy it.

For example I do this now with Inifinity figures: all unavailable limited editions I wan,t I buy at recasters (mostly because the alternative is feebay for 5-10x price), those that can be bought normally (starters, normal blisters) I don't buy at them even if the price is half or less.

Also for e2046:
- a lot of their products (antihero mostly) were never available as paintable, so if you wanted to paint your own scheme, then you were out of luck (or you could hunt down a prepainted oop pvc on ebay for 200+$, strip it and repaint)
- similar for old products (like most for the mentioned "send in your kit" thing)
- at least they have good QC. And the resin used is also a good one (better than FW's imho). There is a distinct difference in anime kits between ebay-recasters and e2046. The first is what Zab wrote to avoid, the second: "avoid if you want only 100% legal, original ones"

Either way,.. if you're into the larger kits (and I know it's still a long ways away),.. but if you can hold out until October, we'll be having another Anime Kit Contest. If you haven't seen it already, you should look up the thread. It was a lot of fun last time, and there were some stellar pieces and paint jobs presented by the community at large. I'm hoping to get more people in on it this next time around though.

@ Max- What's a nendoroid?

@ Valloa-There are boards for garage kits? Can you list some please. E's forums are dead, and have been for years. Only a few post there and that is few and far between.

@Zab- unpainted kits on ebay are 99.9% recasts and of poor quality and sometimes hazardous resin chemicals.

I've got a lot of their kits and knew some are recasts. I just thought when the original pvc statues went into obscurity they took over the molds and turned them into kits. The originals don't come blank and in a bazillion pieces. I have, in the past, forgone purchasing a pvc statue so I could put them together and paint them myself (and make it look better :) ).

I agree with Max, their resin is better than forgeworlds in my opinion. For recasts they sure are really high quality. Their customer service is pretty outstanding too.

Kath got a few of us started on these kits and I'm not gonna lie, I love them. I love anime and I love putting these kits together. I've never been able to find anything like them in the States or anywhere else for that matter.

I went to the PK site. He does have some great stuff, but holy crap he is proud of that stuff. Really expensive. I'm not saying that is a justification for going to a recaster, but when the recast is HQ and 1/3 the price, I can see why people do.

I bought 2 busts that were on sale at the start of January and that was the first thing I've purchased from them in about a year. Will I buy more now that I know this? Honestly I can't say. I just have a hard time believing they are such an evil company when they receive such high praise. I'm still going to paint up and put together the kits I have cause, well, I already have them.

Well, if you can buy from the original artist you really should. Better the money goes to them so they can keep making new figures for all of us. Mini sculptors are not bringing in tons of cash (they're not GW or any of those big gaming companies), so losing business to recasters hurts. I will say that, when it comes to anime and garage kits, I find it difficult to know where to get the original kits. And, when it comes to OOP kits or figures that were never meant to be paintable kits, it's a little less black and white. I've bought from e2046 (before I knew the issues) and can't say I'll never do it again. But if I can find the original I will go for that instead.

By the way, I don't think PK's prices are that high. Look at a company like Nocturna where a 1:12 bust is 65 eur (~$75). PK is selling a 1:6 full figure for $90 or 1:6 full figure and a unicorn for $105. Consider both are resin and PK's are twice as big, that's not a bad deal.

Valloa hit the nail on the head. They are very notorious for their recasting. Surprised, actually, that you weren't aware, DR (as you generally seem to be well informed on such matters). For awhile I was interested in PK King's sculpts, and when I looked into his products it kept sending me to E2046. I seriously couldn't find his stuff elsewhere or on his own site. So if you bought something from them DR, it is almost certainly a copy, albeit a good quality one.
