Actually for your use of colour I'd love to see you do something Tzeentch but perhaps I'm thinking more of your old quite bright work from the late 90's and it's swaying my view ? You seem to have nailed the Nurgle look very well on Gutrot here. I'm sure if you decide to do something though whatever you choose will be epic and at a level us mere mortals can only dream of.

What truly strikes me about Gutrot is the values and saturation. Most do the opposite when painting Nurgle, but you somehow make him just as disgusting by going the opposite of the mainstream. In this alone, your painting is a success.

It's odd isn't it? I'd have thought that Tzeentch would be right up my street too! But when I pick a mini to paint its because the mini grabs my attention and says 'paint me' then I decide how I'll paint it. The Tzeentch minis have never really appealed to me.

I've a bit more progress to show on Gutrot. It's taken me the best part of ten hours over the last week and a bit to paint the head on Gutrot's trident! The blasted thing was driving me crazy but at least I'm now happy with it!

I understand what you mean. Mini's have to really appeal to put the amount of hours in that you do. It's a pity as I think you'd absolutely do the bright colour blending justice ! I remember you saying previously you would never paint another Space Marine, that's a shame too I'd love to see you do some perfect shading on their armour.

On a more on topic note, this is looking stunning. Is he finished now ( obviously barring the base ) ? *Edit - I just saw the patch of plain blue on the arm, clearly that piece is unfinished. I need to get to Golden Demon to see this when it's complete ( or will it be in the Southampton store ? ).

Tzeentch may not be on the cards but Khorne is another matter. The combination of birthday money coming at the same time as the Age of Sigmar starter set and a lack of will power has seen to that!

There are a few bits to do on Gutrot before he is done and dusted. I painted the trident, arm & tentacle before fixing then in place but both the arm & tentacle need further work. I've been working away at them and I'm now very close to being done.
Here is a break down of all the little jobs on my to do list:

Shade & highlight the flesh tones on arm & add some texture - DONE
Paint the hand & give it some fingernails - DONE
Paint the leather straps on the arm - DONE
Paint the armour on the arm - DONE
Paint the fly motif on the armour on the arm - DONE
Blend the tentacle colour into the body - TO DO
Highlight the tentacle - TO DO
Shade the tip of the tentacle to green - TO DO
Paint green bands onto the tentacle - TO DO
Paint the tooth/claw on the tentacle - TO DO

That's not something I was aware of but I can see how it could be useful. On the whole I prefer to keep things a bit more low key. The to do list above is something I would usually carry around in my head. I often write down a list of jobs 'to do' as I'm finishing things off just so I don,t forget them in my eagerness to be finished. But for the most part I prefer to work without the self imposed pressure of a to do list.

Gutrot is finally done! It's been a long haul to get to this point and I still have the base to sort out but I'm very pleased with how things are going.
At such a key point in the project I think it’s no bad thing to reflect on it’s origins before I move on to the next stage.

My goals for ‘Project Nurgle were as follows:

To develop a distinct ‘nautical Nurgle’ style for the project. The aim here is to come up with something original that still fits with the established look and feel of Nurgle;

To become familiar with ScaleColour paints from Scale 75 and their uses;

To ‘go back to my roots’ and explore a strong palette of contrasting saturated colours in an up-to-date context.

To pull out all the stops and try to paint my ‘best’ mini yet!

Broadly speaking I’d say ‘so far so good’.

Slendid work Dave. I particularly like the metal work on the trident and the smooth transition between he pink and the yellow on the flesh. The chain mail is something I would like some tips on if you have a moment as I always struggle doing realistic nmm chain mail.

You have done an incredible job. I am happy to have gotten to see him come to life and thank you for sharing that with us. If you catch a cold soon that was Papa Nurgle saying "yeah boy!"

This is stunning, incredible amount of work and the subtle extra details to make it more nurgle are so well done you don't even notice the conversion. Perfect work sir !

I need to see this in the flesh, will it be in the Southampton store after GD ?
