Hope you had a good holiday mate. I know your going with a bleached / driftwood style but I would still be tempted to so with some slight brown shades towards the upper wood?

The boat base is look fab. I would agree with 10, a little reddish browns might go really nice against the green algae?

The Holiday was great and (as you know) I now have a great store of dried out twisty roots for basing.

On reflection some of the lighter grey areas do look a bit bland so a touch of brown could help with that.
The overall look of the boat is changing as I'm painting in the other elements like the anchor and water so it's all in a state of flux at the moment. I might well need to tweak the wood to balance the colours out once all the elements are assembled so I'm going to hold off until and then.

Brown as 10 suggests would look great but other than that I have nothing to offer. I'm completely in awe of your skills

Hmm you know what I think I prefere the greyer version it seems to offset the green mouldy stuff. The rope is spectacular.

Loving this little ship base ^^
I like both versions, greyish and brownish... I would decide depending on what you put on top of it.

Another colour you could consider on the wood is black for really rotten areas as this is the normal colour for wet rotting wood. Fantastic piece whatever you decide

Depends what you want and how you see it. A weatherworn salt blasted ship would look more grey, something with a hint of being cared for would look browner, then again there is always artistic license.

Progress is steady but it feels a bit haphazard as Gutrot's boat is at a funny stage with lots of fiddly little bits and water effects on the go at the same time!
Here are a couple of quick & dirty shots of the way things are looking as of tonight. I've also got the second tentacle painted but it's in the process of having it's four coats of gloss varnish applied.

Such an amazing piece. The echo's of colour between the tentacle and Nurgling are great. I presume the Nurgling is scratch built ?

That little drop of water on the tentacle is incredible, great attention to detail. Hope he's not too tricky to pack up and safe take along to the GD. Photo's look great too.

Scratch built nurglings are so 1990! He comes from the plague bearer box. I'm using the same colours throughout the base that I used on Gutrot so it all feels of a piece once Gutrot get's attached.

Packing should be OK as the whole thing will be on a resin cube and that will fit into a socket within a custom made box.

Possibly, bases always seem to go a bit quicker. Having said that the nurgling took about 7 hours!!! I've got lots of fiddly little bits to get ready for the base and water effects take forever but it is starting to come together.
