@Teronus - :angel: I should be fine, I have a bunch of "obsessions" so I'm pretty used to it. Really enjoying the challenge and fun of mini painting - it's something different and, who knows, I might be able to amaze you guys one day! :D I had to remind myself that I've only been doing this for four months, so I need to cut myself some slack and try my best (I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I usually do), but still enjoy it.

My other main "obsession" is reading - I'm a huge book nerd, but my book budget is being eaten into by minis at the moment. :) I also review books for a national magazine.

Other "obsessions" include: gaming (xbox and PC), embroidery, writing, knitting and slapping paint on canvases.

RRemeber there is no set way but what I advise are interaction of colors in the shading and highlighting by introducing colors compliments and analogies..for example first I look at the base color and say to myself what color on the (12 color wheel) does it come close to....I think we can all agree it's a rotted flesh which looks yellow ,beige,yellowgreen,etc....ok so what is the compliment of yellow it's a blue,could even have a bit of purple in iit..this can be 1) glazed in,blended in etc...OR WHAT I LIKE TO DO IS MIX THE COMPLIMENT WITH THE BASE COLOR...I do this because with shades and or highlights the best effects are small increments and building up this over layers,blending ,layering (whatever technique you have the most success and ease with)

This way as opposed to a darker and or lighter color of the base color (which many people do) it will be much more attractive to the eye during the viewing...ok so color interaction is a way to show contrast . Another way to show contrast is using hot/cold colors with your complimentery/analogous..What this means is we shade cool complimentary and highlight warm analogous..to highlight this take a bit of beige-screaming skull ushabit bone (these are Coolto the initial base color and their warm due to sharing a yellow hue (warm colors are oranges,yellow,reds - cool colors are blues purples greens even. Add this to the base color (always a Lil to the base color when shading or highlighting -small increments-yeah! Great work btw nice neat clean painting and very nice color choice and selection for the palette.

That is exactly how I would do it some on this guy a lol next project and as you go believe me I won't be offended if you feel it's not what matches your minds eye that's totally ok it'll just be more info to try as you "the Artist" sees git as you go. Kinda like that :"as we go" yeah that's a good painting term. "Steals ...runs away looking with shifty eyes" lol

Hehe - I'm having a bad influence on you BAM. Excellent! :devil:

I think I've mentioned previously that I always take advice on board. It might not get used immediately or in the way suggested, but it gets stored in the mad clutter of my brain. So advise away!

This is looking rather nice.
Unfortunately for me I've encountered a Cosplayer (Oh dear grief I hope he was a Cosplayer{ Shudders at memory}) wearing cinched in leather straps and being somewhat of a +++size. The skin I can only describe as having a yellow tinge / cast where the leather pulled in. So some Micro Fine Glazes will add a 'punch'.

I'm so sorry that you had to experience that! Our little domain of geekdom is not without its dangers.

I'm glad you like where he's going. At the moment (because things may change so you'd better be paying attention) I've got very bruised skin in mind. You know that lovely purple/green/yellow combination that spectacular bruises go through?

I think you have a natural talent on this, you learn super fast!
Maybe that other "splattering canvas" hobby that you have is helping you lots ;)

PS.: Thank you for worrying the other day! I am painting now the covers of a little blank notebook, it's a present for my wife, we will have been together 18 years this very next weekend! Then she could put all the info on irish dancing (it's her hobby) there.

Strangely enough in my canvas painting I'm more abstract - so this has been lots of fun to learn. But it may have helped with brush control and an idea if how colours combine - although I have lots to learn still!

That sounds like an amazing present - are you doing celtic designs on the cover? I'm sure she'll love it.

As this is like a tradition, she has another two that I computer designed for her with celtic designs, I took a more plastic approach this time by painting everything by hand. I put a stripped design on the back with the colours of the irish flag. And a sort of multicolour broken ceramic design (trencadís from Gaudí) on the front, that's inspired on the logo from her Irish dance school.
