You should make us a video...
I want to know how you crank out stuff so fast and so good. It can't all be the clouds of purple smoke & rivers of whiskey.

I think he'd need one of those cameras they use to show hummingbird wings flapping, it's the only thing that could capture bam speed painting :p

The shaman looks awesome too mate, but no surprises there, can't wait to see the base

Bad as hell, BAM. I love everything about them. I am very eager to see what Sproket did with these models, as I know you felt inspired by his style and the start he made. I see the influence (saturation of the colors, crispness of the various 'zones'), but they are very much BAM-looking. Which is a good thing, of course!

Flaming smoke - fell magic
BC - carnage red
blend this into stormy grey and blend stormy grey into stone grey.
this will be the base colors of the flames into the darker smoke into the smokey peak of lighter smoke.
shade - the whole thing gets a glaze of druchi violet as you get to the darker parts lay in druchi violet on its own (keeping very Lil wash (non diluted) on the brush. Keep laying it in until it blends and intensifies on the darkest part - "the middle ".

now start the highlighting (smoke gets highlighted diff than other surfaces as its a gas and where the bulbous portions of the flames start to curl and make bubble blend in carnage red and orang.build up the blends or layers until only a portion of the bulbs get that highlight blended in. If too bright knock it back with carrosburg / druchi very thinned like every thing needs to be built up as if your a water colorist painter-in layers . Use orange and bleached bone on the tippy top parts and add smolder dots. Be pretty liberal but make em small. I prefer when doing dots (light catch , pimples or smolder ) by using pAinr straight from the bottle as its thick enough to get a small neat dot.
for the grey smoke
use weathered stone and stormy grey to build up the highlights on the circular bulbous parts on the smoke where it curled. Layer em on in coats thin applications again like water colorists would do. (Look on youtube you'll get the idea)
than 2:1 ratio of weathered stone and stormy great.
after this weatherd stone sparingly placed on the top part of the curling smoke

apy weathered stone dots again liberally right from bottle.after done take weathered stone and glaze it on all the grey parts of smoke everywhere. Just like you glaze shades you can glaze light colors to unify and knock back shadows that are to dark .
Lastly apply Guiliman blue very thinned with lahmian medium over all the light and dark grey parts as well as where the REDS FLAMES begin to curl into the dark grey.
Reaaply any dots that have been lost.
enjoy smoke effects.

To do anything I've had my share of pain trying things out -DON'T BE SCARED YOU'LL RUIN A MODEL -have confidence in yourselves the same way I do that it can be fixed. I've gone over pieces as much as ten times. Never worry it can be fixed. That's the purpose of thinned coats you can always go over what you do not like.inly way to get better is throw yourself out of the nest.

Thanks Bam for this great tutorial!!! I've read, I understand it but now I'll be disapointed because I'll never get a result near as good as yours. BTW, what is lahmian medium? Never heard of it. I've kept a couple fo mini's just for expermenting. This way I can first try it on these without the risk of ruining of figure I'm trying to do good.

Keep on painting,

Gino(2dope)

Oh my apologies bud I've should've explained these points.
OK FIRST OFF I USE ONLY MASTER SERIES REAPER PAINTS..... THEY ARE AMAZING. BUT THERE ARE CONVERSIONS FRO THESE AND ONLINE YOU CAN FIND SUBSTITUTES WHEN CONVERTING THEM TO SCALE 75, Vallejo , GW AND ALL OTHERS....
NOW WHEN IT CONES TO WASHES AND GLAZES I ALWAYS USE GAMES WORKSHOP.- now the thing when thinning out your washes and glazes from games workshop you need to use LAHMIAN MEDIUM(lahmian medium is the games workshop glaze medium used to thin out the games workshop washes) you see all of us know you cannot repeat CANNOT CUT ANY OF THE GW WASHES WITH WATER .WHEN DONE SO IT LEAVES WHEN IT DRIES A MILKY TYPE WHITE TIDE MARK.IF IT HAS NEVER HAPPEN TO YOU ,YOU GOT LUCKY ...IT WILL ,GW SAYS IT AND ITS HAPPENED RO ME QUITE ALOT...SO THEY CAME OUT WITH GWS version of glaze medium but it is specifically used to thin out the GW washes which I always do as they're great but very thick ..

So gino me boy there ya have it ...Lahaina medium I have 6 bottles of that and ...well the only thing more of than that that I own is "BLOOOD FOR DA BLOOD GOD" -WELL because I bloody things up a lot and that's the best GW technical paint aside layman medium..
BTW WHEN GETTING MY BLOOD EFFECT ILL TAKE TWO BLOBS OF BFTBG AND TAKE A LIL BIT OF BLACK INK AND MIX IT WITH ONE THEM THATS THE DARKER MORE AGED BLOOD AS BLOOD GETS DARKER WHEN IT DRIES AND SITS..THE SECOND BLOB ILL THIN OUT AND MAKE IT A WASH ANS SIMOLY APPLY DIFFERENT SIZES OF RANDOM POOLS AND VBLOTCHES ...VIOLA

Thanks again for a very useful SBS on the cool looking smoke. I really do think you should do a video sometime, simply because there's something in your technique that recipes alone aren't going to capture...
But take your time. You more than generous with your painting wisdom!

How does BAM finish so many models so quickly? Here's the answer, practice and hard work!

it's been 8 hours again of sheer painting. Eyes starting to get heavy still working on the skull but here dry are boys

I'm digging this unit, and love the idea of the wolves. This is gonna be wicked! Thanks for all of the extra recipes and info, esp. the tip on the Lahmian medium. I've fought those stupid tide marks ever since GW updated their washes a few years ago, now I know the solution! Cheers!

Hi BAM,

I second the idea to have a video on figure painting by you!

i'll buy some Lahmian medium next time I'll visit the GW shop; which will be to buy the next issue of Visions.

Take care and don't bleed out
