    This surprised me (Canadian History)

I heard this on the radio last night heading home from work: http://www.theworld.org/?q=node/12763 First off, I think native peoples have gotten a raw deal across the globe, but I was surprised to hear about this residential schooling program being active in Canada until the 1990s. I had...

    Recent Submissions - feedback appreciated

Here are a few of my recent submissions. Would love feedback - mostly older minis (which I love), but I finally did a Reaper mini! http://www.coolminiornot.com/156297 http://www.coolminiornot.com/157413 http://www.coolminiornot.com/160684 http://www.coolminiornot.com/164737...

    Activated charcoal

I was changing the activated charcoal in my aquarium filter and realized that the pieces were a good size and color to use for dark, rocky basing material. I was curious about whether the charcoal might cause problems with the paint - anyone know?

    3:10 to Yuma

Just saw it. Enjoyed it. Go check it out. For Serenity fans, Alan Tudyk was entertaining as always. Crowe and Bale were good, as expected. Have to agree with the ads that it is the best Western I\'ve seen since Unforgiven.

    Must see animation?

Just looking for some suggestions for good animated films, as I enjoy them. I have seen most of the Pixar/Disney films, and am more interested in less mainstream stuff. I have seen and liked some anime (Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Trigun series), though the emphasis on martial combat in...

    Dr. Who minis

I just bought a large lot of old minis on ebay, and it there are quite a few minis that I eventually identified as Dr. Who minis from the 1980s. I may keep them for the nostalgia value, but I thought I would see if any fellow CMONers are diehard collectors and would be interested in them...

    Grenadier Monster Manuscript Sets wanted

Here is the Stuff of Legends link for the sets: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~tpope/sol/grenadier/dragon-lords-monster-manuscript.html Anyone willing to part with these? I am slowly collecting these OOP sets (already have Volumes I,VI, and VII) and would be willing to purchase for a reasonable...

    Stargate minis

http://www.phoenix-icons.com/ Has anyone gotten a good look at the 28 mm range minis? I think I will have to get the SG-1 team at the very least. If for no other reason, an homage to a sci-fi series with staying power!

    Lego Art

http://www.cnn.com/2007/SHOWBIZ/05/31/lego.artist/index.html Not sure if someone has posted this here already, but this guy\'s art is pretty cool.

    How extreme is Islamic extremism?

Before someone bites my head off, I am in no way condoning the actions of Islamic terrorists (or any terrorists, for that matter)! I had a heated discussion with my family regarding religion recently, and it got me thinking about \"radical\" Islam. The media seems to imply that the factions...

Controversial topic - You have been warned

This has been in the news quite a bit, but for those not aware, the US Supreme Court has passed a law against \"Partial Birth\" abortion that goes into effect in the near future. I find this appalling as it essentially puts legislators between women and their doctors when they need to make...

Recent submissions - fishing for feedback

For some reason it is taking awhile for some of my recent submissions to gather votes/feedback (special thanks to those who already left comments), so I thought I would fish here! http://www.coolminiornot.com/152891 http://www.coolminiornot.com/154230 http://www.coolminiornot.com/154894 I know...

    Bizarre Foods

I have seen a few episodes on the Travel Channel of this guy who basically travels around the world eating weird/gross/bizarre things, and thought it would be a fun topic for CMONers to discuss a little of their local \"flavor\". I haven\'t found anything particularly bizarre thus far in...

    Fungus Among Us

Nearing completion of this WIP. The Myconid is from Grenadier, and I think the Shrieker is a Heritage figure. The little mushrooms are not finished, and I need to touch up a few spots elsewhere, but I mainly want an opinion about whether to leave the base metallic as is, or to paint it. If...

    Basing question

I used a can lid for a small diorama, and am debating whether I should paint the lid, or leave it as is. The lid is sort of a burnished gold metallic, and the diorama is completely contained within the slight indentation in the lid. The scene is a subterranean one, and I thought if I painted...

    Best New Wave Band

I freely admit I was child of the 80s - goofy haircut and a fashion victim. I was loading up some old music on my Ipod and got a bit nostalgic, so I thought I would start a poll. What was the best/most influential \"New Wave\" band of the 80s/early 90s? I just came up with these off the top...

    Scouter & Bristlebrush from Elfquest

Looking for constructive criticism on this submission, as I thought they would fare better on the scoring front. I know that they haven\'t hit the magical \"60 vote\" mark yet, but they have been up for about 5 days and have only gotten a little over 30 votes. First off, the EQ minis are tiny...

Animals you would like to see as minis.

After picking up a few Reaper familiar packs I realized that I wished there were more \"realistic\" animal minis. Anyone have a wish list of animal minis they would like to see? I would like to see an aye-aye (really creepy looking lemur - google it). Different types of birds would be nice -...

    cave terrain

I am planning to make a small diorama of a cave scene with an old Heritage (I think) shrieker and a Grenadier Myconid. I want to make some stalagmites coming up from the cave floor, and wondered if anyone has suggestions about how best to do that without having to use a ton of GS.
