Thanks for all the comments people :)

Right! was in the zone last night. Started this, had this mini for years (one of GW best ever). I have attempted to paint him about 3 times over the years always ending in failure :( Its a tricky one indeed to get looking good. Any tips will be very helpful.

Well it's off to a good start, keep in mind colour theory when you paint. Warm v cool colours. So atm its looking good with the blues / reds in there, I would continue that in the cloth area, maybe doing it red with blue shading to contrast. With a cold NMM blue blade.

Yes one of my favourite old school chaos lords. For me I would keep it minimalist as the bones are the focal point of this mini so you don't want to saturate colour on other parts of the mini. So black cloth dirtied brown at the bottom, rusty sprocket blade. But the occasional spot colour, gold on the belt skulls and cross guard and pommel with maybe emerald green on the jewels, pouches dark satinated brown leather. NO to glowing eyes ....stop it, ah ah ah I saw you ;). Even with the spot colours I wouldn't make them GOLD!!! Keep them slightly tarnished and a bit matt.

Base is going to be pivotal to this mini you realy want to go to town on it.

Great ideas, youve both had the same thoughts as me on a few things. Skraal - Red on the cloth shading with blue, will go with, but I reckon a NMM rust blade like you say Andy. A big NO to glowing eyes on this one.

If any of you get a chance to paint this mini see what you think - its a right bitch - one little slip and aaaahhhhhhh :tremble!:

Rusty and NMM....odd combo. Actually I think a NMM blade would not fit such a great old school model. A proper metallic blade would be better.

Well the 'zone' wore off last night BIG TIME. This one nearly went on a trip like that finecast marine. Im pleased with the bones but had a brain storm and decided to block in the red cloth. Then it started, red looked sh8t, shaded with blues, browns no ,no,no. Changed my mind at about 11.45pm to green and went to bed.
I couldnt get anything to look right, it was like I had painters block or something!! I reckon its all the NMM on the knight, ive blown a gasket :( Having a rest tonight.

Best to let it rest and pick it up another day. Some days you shouldn't be allowed to paint: nothing comes out right! :S
I rather like the green on it but I would make it darker.

Any tips on the highlights on the green people? Its a base coat of vallejo german camo green with a bit of space wolfs grey mix.

I think it looks fine. Highlite by adding a touch of tan to your green to keep it earthy if that's where you're going.

I'd just up it with a lighter gray and then with a tad of white; plenty of shading though I think is the key here. Also I was reading in a spanish mini mag(god they know the mini art) about 'spotting' random dots of a dark ink or wash placed at the lower extremities of the garment to give it a weathered stained appearance; it looked a real beaut. I've got the mag somewhere I'll dig it out and flirt it up to you if you like. However I think this would be an ideal mini to try the effect out on. Also pigments here would be good IMHO.

Thought about using bleached bone to tie it in with the bone armour? It would also be a warmer highlight.

Hi 10, rotten flesh is a great colour to highlight your green with. You can then use bleached bone as the brightest colour. I use these two on grimgor and am happy with the result.

Cheers
