Great work on this, 10 ball. Very inspirational. Makes me want to go out and get some old school nurgle figures to paint. Good luck at the competition(s)!

Thanks all, great comments as usual that really help my work improve :)

A few months ago Andy & Will commented on maybe practicing my TMM after the fail on the dwarf axe that I repainted in NMM.
So today I have done just that on this supadupa mini to practice TMM on.
Started with boltgun metal (several thin layers), wash with black, layer up chainmail, then I blended (yes blend not wash) with purple/green inks.
Then scab red and hawk turquoise (glazes). I have discovered loads about TMM today -

1. paint all brush strokes in the same direction.
2. VERY thin layers at a time.
3. Dont jump to a lighter metallic to soon.
4. Their hard to photo because of the damn shine.
5. Its hard to make the mini 'pop' like with NMM.

Some progress picts:

Durak so far, dont know if I like TMM better than NMM they both have their advantages/disadvantages. Its certainly has a less cartoon look than NMM.
Thoughts?

really good work matey. Now you have both skillz in the bank depending on the style of mini you are painting. I have this guy too - he is Bo! But small?

Over and out.

Looks very nice, in a regal kind of way. Metal armour kept polished to the best standard. My only query is about the chainmail, there seems to be a dark line/ shadow, looking like it follows the line of his leading leg? Maybe the angle of the photo? Otherwise looking awesome.

Wow. I thought the metallics looked good in the first few. Then you added the red and blue. Amazing.

Ditto. I thought that last photo was dang good, then I scrolled and there was another one. Holy smokes there was a major difference gong to that last photo. Good job.

Man that is good. I just started to do the same kind of thing on my TMM golds with greens and purples - no where near as good as that though. Must have been a bitch to light and shoot ;)

It's good to see your fantastic results whilst painting using metallics. It's also good to see that you've straight away focussed on getting colour into the metallics and working it in a similar way to nmm (thinking about light and dark, smooth transitions). I've found that a mix of black and gunbolt is a great base layer, or mixing in colour with the metallics works too.

Nice one 10ball!

Ooh! Shiny!*
That's a really nice job on that mini. Ditto what everybody has said about the addition of colours to the metallics, too. I shall have to stick my nose into your thread more often, good sir. There's plenty to be seein' here :)

*i can't believe nobody said that already...

Lovely job there mate will have to give TMM a go myself great basing with the greens and the flowers and the webs on. One thing though that bothers me is the top left block no way would it hold up like that it's grating on my nerves. Crack it off mate and paint up stick it on as rubble if you want. Just my two cents.

Bloody good show sir! Great metals and colours, and a cracking base too. Though on second look, I do kinda agree with Andy about that block...

You, sir, are still in the zone.

I also agree about the block. Maybe you could add half arch below to hold it instead of cracking it off. Other thing I've noticed is that the floor tiles seem as if they were integrated to a block of cement. It would look better if you give a different color to the mass of material underneath them. Just my two cents, other than that, top work.

One thing I've never been able to figure out with regards to colors in metallics - how do you know what goes where? I understand light and dark, but once you start adding reds and blues, my mind goes blank.

Well im not into the science of light and reflection, as Ive said before when I was at Golems painting day - Tommie said to us (when explaining NMM) as long as it looks cool done worry to much about horizon lines, lighting effects etc. so that's what I do - just have a mess around :)

Blues, purples and greens are to tone down. They are cool colours so they create good shadow.
Yellows and reds(orange less useful since it makes it look like rust and sometimes you don't want that). Are the warm colours and can be used to give some change around the middle, for me these are harder to place too. Top/most light is just metallic ;)
