More progress or maybe less!?!

Its was all going well until a questionable decision of mine at 1am :sleepy: made me (in a quest for deeper shadows) wash the whole blasted mini with scorched brown.
Do I need to blend the colours back up through blood red or could a wash of a lighter colour work? (will it leave a red chalk appearance over the glaze?) :messed:

I think it looks amazing, but i have allways prefered my blood angels darker thn most seem to like

Hear! Hear! That's because we grew up with Blood Angels when they were still basecoated in Terracotta, isn't it? ;)

Id say yes as your moving further and further away from the blood red. I would also push the highlites more if you look at a peice of red plastic or glazed red ceramic there are some realy brightened sections

Done very thin with a bit of slow dry it shouldnt go chalky and if it does what the heck you can always coat over it with a bit more baal red which i would do any way. Might also add a bit of white to the mix rather than yellow I know it goes a bit girly pink but then just glaze over the top and it should bring the manlyness back again rarrr!!!!

thats looking really cool 10ball like the others the darker shading seems more like it, i see you drilled out the barrels on the stormbolter (possibly a larger drill bit tho)

Hey 10ball.
Looking aces mate. I'm with Cassar on the barrels a size or two bigger bit. Also the shading around the toes of his boots looks a little heavy compared to the rest. Its the right tone just a little too much of it and the transition is a little abrupt.

Hi 10ball. Really love these Spacehulk termies and this is shaping up nicely. Reds are great tones, some transitions are a little abrupt such as stew said on the foot. Not sure if its a trick of the eye but it looks some of the washes are blotching on the powerfist? If so may be worthwhile coming back with your midtones/highlights to smoothen out.

You have the reds absolutely spot on though. Can you post the receipe if you've not already :)

Cheers
Will

Thanks for the comments.

Cassar - yep will enlarge them a bit.

Stew - the tones are abrupt your right, they look ok under a day lamp? Thats why its good to study a photo while working :)

Willdorling - the red, is a mix from a few peoples receipes. Base is standard Eavy metal mix of blood red & dark flesh (dont know the new names). then highlights with oranges / yellow. I dont like the look when using whites it goes to pink for me.
then lots of washes / glazes - red, sepia and purple. but as you say it can go blotchy.

The problem I have is when painting the midtone back on it goes chalky over the glaze. its a right pain to build up the glazes back over. I need to get the underwork correct before glazing.

Oooh! and all of a sudden this little scene is popping! Lovely blues on the base - it sets off the red perfectly. Very nice work.

Got to agree with cassar the blue on the base is simply inspired! Water effect from the pipe is great I might be tempted to moss up the pipe a bit. Are you going to leave the black base as is or are you going to incorporate it into the over all theme? Both would be good. Also this is screaming out for an "Easter egg" ya know something lurking away and people go ooh that's nice never saw that first time!

Of course I meant me in Japan most sorry about that!

Very nice 10! I really like him - my favorite tho are the blends on the designs, like on the shoulders and stuff. Great job!

Very nice reds, the base looks good too! I agree with the others about the Bolter barrel needing to be drilled out a little more, but other than that its all coming on nicely. :cute:
