Cheers all.

Got some good painting done last night and finally got this fine fellow finished. Real pleased, I think some of my best painting to date.
If all goes well he will be locking horns with Sprokets Nurgle at GD15 so I will have to try and push Dave down the stairs again ;)

Now ive got my mojo back will try and pick up the pieces of Gokan, he is not going very well at all :(

Dude you're married right? Your soul isn't yours to sell. I checked with The Lady Inquisitor re that very thing and she just laughed that creepy cold girl laugh that they do. You know, where the smile doesn't reach their eyes...

Thanks all :)

Well Andy's painting NMM so I thought I better 'brush' up on my NMM gold with the start to a command group im doing.

Base - GW XV-88
Blended up to a midtone with GW Balor Brown.
Ten slow highlights by adding Scale 75 mojave white
Glazed back with dark skin then dark skin + black.
re highlight then glaze with yellow.
Extreme highlight with Scale 75 matt white.

Nearly done just going to add some purple glazes then re-highlight.

Nice painting. I don't know how you plan the result, but if I can say my point of view, I missing the metallic look of the surface. The surface missing some important main(?) reflections, sides of the helm for example and some secondary(?) reflections, side of the chest plate for example. I tried to photoshop your image and with some additional reflections I have personally better feel of gold metal. I know that I'm not master of nmm, but I must say it. Good luck.

Lovely gold there mate I like the red glazing very much. I would do a bit of an edge highlite on the armour on the thigh (don't know what you call it). Other than that splendid.

lookin good but i have to echo persifal a bit, to me it look more like some kind of fabric or plastic material than metal, but then it will brobably look a whole lot better when the rest of the details is painted.

really cool though. perhaps i should dodge the regiment category this year :D naaaah
already seen the beginning of some neat ones...

Thanks all :)

Persifal / Skel - yeah your both right, it kinda looks like you know it supposed to be gold but you can tell its just coloured paint. The way ive been painting lately its been more about the smooth clean look like the Eavy Metal look from 10 years ago.
NMM has been around since the beginning just people didnt realise it and with a few choice placed shadows / highlights it suddenly becomes metal. I enjoy the cartoon non realistic approach to painting minis, Ive noticed I stick with the projects more when painting like this. I suppose its a fine line between improving your style or changing your style.
Oh well ive got 4 more to paint anyway so its all fun :)

Looks like pure gold to me bro. The most realistic part is the sword, up near the top of the hilt. Because at this part you have your darkest shadow next to your brightest highlight. This, I have found, is the best way to show metal. It doesn't need to be everywhere like this, but in a few places it really helps it look reflective. Also, such a cool choice of mini. I've always been fond of those elves...

Question: at a GD, for a regiment can you for instance make a unit that consists of 3-4 normal minis with a named character as the general? Would this count as a squad category?

I must not agree with you ten. You have unique chance to make great model. It is lots of time to GD and to make some good work. I made homework wit Gimp and try to capture my vision of reflections on the your work. I must say it was easy, because you made perfect start. If you don't like this, ignore it and make it yours way. Far to clean and monochromatic, I can't see how the other details will change the flatness, yeah, nice painting, but that's it, not going to win you any medals
