But they might ABUSE them..!

Well, maybe not the boys. But mini decorated her brothers' room, her own room and the staircase (my beautiful, freshly painted staircase!) the last time she got hold of a pen... I dread what she's do with a set of paint.

Up late last night sharpening up the skin & hair. Added a earring (just a base coat) the challenge will be to paint it NMM gold without in clashing in colour with the oranges/yellows in the hair.

Perhaps a pale/white gold, avoid using rich shadows. just a thought. R u painting the mightily nice elves for GD? I phoned my store and asked how many i would have to enter for a unit and they said minimum 10!!! Darn that, I'd need another four years

dennis that is not true.
many of my regiments are 10+ in game like the elfs, in GD minimum five is enough (also note; NOT 3 for monster regiments they have to be 5+ in GD also even if they are 3+ in game - we asked GW HQ this before last year). i have been to many gamesdays and seen all kinds of regiments with five models. i think the "must be leagal in game terms" are there just to prevent people mixing an ork, a high elf two skeletons and an ogre boss in a regiment.

conclusion; if you field whatever regiment in GD i you are safe with five models.

Honestly have to disagree here, bronze was fair imo the lotr was a hard category, Anas gold winning mini was slayer material to me and glazed over (?) have some incredible sharp freehand. Hmm 10ball stole my bronze though lol ;)

that's cool it's just my opinion skels..I feel in agreement to something you once said, there are 10-20 models in each category that they have to pick the top 3 out of ,3rd is as good as second, and second is as good as first.this kinda thing I'm just thankful I'm not the one haveing a very hard a super difficult task of judging.

Ive been to the last 6/7 GDUKs and without a doubt it was the hardest LOTR category of seen.
I reckon because GW cancelled the others and left the UK GD to the last minute all the best painters blasted a LOTR mini out.
Skeles correct the gold winner was slayer standard, Gareth (glazedover) took silver (he usually gets gold, bless him), and a real handsome chap whos name i forget took bronze.

On the day seeing i was againts the above plus skel, averlorn, rogland etc i was shocked to get in the winners.
Stef, i will never forget your face mate when they put Gandalf on the top shelf, i couldnt see because of the crowd, all i saw was your hand go up, and your face had the biggest smile, a great day mate :hug-right:

Did you ever think you'd pull it off with a LOTR mini? These sculpts are challenging to me, at least for the purposes of winning an award. Especially a model like Gandalf, whom has been painted beautifully by so many. A testament to the piece, really...

I have to make it to a GDUK one year. Was there ever any info as to why GW closed every other GD in the world except this one? Obviously know why they'd keep this one in particular, but why the mass closing? Why not keep at least one in all of N America? If it's a money issue, make the artists fund it by paying for their entries. I know this is less than optimal but I know I would pay...

Money serious money problems they lost over a quarter of their share value in one sharp readjustment. Management went bonkers and cut everything to the bone in a jerk sorry knee jerk reaction. Hence all the GD shut down apart from UK. By all accounts though the uk GD was actually very good much better venue and I'm going to go to the next one as the reports from lee and Skelletets were so glowing.

lee the hair is lovely really like his beard and eyes your on to a nice one here.

nmm will keep the cartoony feel going plus it will p*ss off Steff which is a must;)

Just came from a local GW where I asked the same question to the manager. Her answered was a bit different. She said it was a combination of things, but it came down to HQ was opening up too many stores and so couldn't staff it, plus insurance laws made it so they couldn't run it with volunteers, AND Unions made it even less attractive by forbidding staff to do ANYTHING with setup and tear down.

If you ask me, all of these could be solved with, guess what, money. This also doesn't explain the lack of GD Germany/France/Italy etc...Oh well. While GW don't make my favorite minis by a long shot, they just paint so damn well....

BTW 10-I found my all gold mini. Hint-He has the same head that you're currently painting, plus a model that someone recommended to me on this thread.

he became a dad and is pretty inactive at the moment. hope he return to the hobby soon though!

Awesome! I will send him some positive Dad vibrations. In the long wrong I think the kids help my hobby. Keep me a lot more focused. Like if I have 45 minutes for hobby time I am going to damn well do some hobbying. Who needs showers anyways?

Skin and hair is looking great on your dwarf 10, those eyes are pretty great too :)
