13th Talabhiem Experimental Division - a rubbishly painted army

Thought I would get round to posting up my empire army (the tiny bit of it thats actually painted), so behold:

The 13th Talabhiem Experimental Division

Basically, a friend and I decided to enter the UK Warhammer fantasy doubles tourney. So I made an army list:

Heroes
Captain riding a pegasus with full plate armour, shield and lance
[114pts]

Core
20 Swordsmen with full command
[145pts]
{Detachment} 10 free companies
[50pts]
10 handgunners, led by marksman with hochland long rifle
[105pts]
10 handgunners, led by marksman with hochland long rifle
[105pts]

Special
5 pistoliers led by outrider with repeater pistol
[108pts]

Rare
Helstorm rocket battery
[115pts]

Total:742pts (for some reason I thought the unit of pistoliers was 7 more points and had the total as 749pts)

Easy I thought, two weeks per unit, one to convert, one to paint, with extra for my better units, plus I had a month free to do behind schedule models. But every week, I either did a tiny amount of work, or said to myself, I don\'t feel like doing anything, I\'ll do it in the spare month.

So it ended up with three weeks left, with only my pistoliers and Swordsmen converted. D\'oh! I started to take it more seriously, and did at least half an hour each day. I managed to convert everything with just one week left! I had to paint it all in one week! So for that week I got up at 4:00 each morning, painted, had breakfast, painted some more, went to school, painted a bit in school, came home, painted, had supper, painted then went to bed, giving me a total of around 10hours a day. I finished off the last of the models in the travelodge the night before the competition.

Over the tournament my army was surrounded by some awesome works of art, which in comparison made my army look like it was painted by a four year old. The only units which I got some praise on were my pistoliers, and my turn counter. After that weekend (which we didn\'t come last !YAY!) I went home and gave up anything constructive for the next week as relaxation.

Then suddenly I remembered the schools league. S**T! I thought to myself, so again I made an army list:

Heroes
Level 2 Death wizard
[100pts]

Core
20 Swordsmen with full command
[145pts]
{Detachment} 9 free companies
[45pts]
10 huntsmen
[100pts]

Special
5 pistoliers led by outrider with repeater pistol
[108pts]

Total:498pts

Ok, I had to convert and paint 10 huntsmen, sculpt and paint a wizard, and paint the rest of my turn counter in 3 days, back came the getting up at 4:00 etc. Again I only finished the morning before. This time over the tournament, people kept on commenting on my army, I was really surprised, then some of the staff did, someone said I might win the best painted army award, moments later the staff members who were looking at my army, went and got others, who in turn got the author of the NEB (Graham McNeill), all praising my work. At the end of the day, they were giving out the awards (we came last so none for us) and they did the Painting awards, I was feeling rather tense, and of course they had to do the fantasy one last, I won! I was so pleased! I honestly didn\'t expect to win, maybe a honorary mention, or a runner up, but not winner.

Anyway, kept you for so long, here is some of the army, the rest will be put up soon:

nice work and congrats on getting the army finished in time.

as for the painting i think an easy thing you could do is add some shading on the cloth. at the moment where it would be darkest (in the recesses) is white, add some black in there and they should look a bit more 3d.

But its a good army and i really like the display base
