For the spacing in order to give it an easy visual strength I\'d suggest allowing the height of each model between models and the widths of the base between the sides and first model. For the overall height between shelves allow the height and the base size as a minimum.
When you talk about Dremel-ing a slot for the bases; Are you intending to take the figures off the \'slottabases\'?
