A couple from me

That actually means quite alot coming form you Shawn. I was happy with the layout of the light, but for some reason I simply could not get the blend I like. I personally think that RMS Nightshade purple and VMC Offwhite hate each other and were simply refusing to blend.

I see what you mean about the first one but you still managed to capture the essence of your concept pretty well I think. The second one looks outstading.

I actually like the first one (purple chick) more. :drunk:

Where I can\'t see the lighting on the second one the blue scheme doesn\'t quite make sense to me, especially with the red rose and such. Yes, I\'m quite sure it\'s an artistic thing, just not my fancy. Good painting though.

The theme of the contest was \"I guess thats why they call it the blues,\" hence the blue. The red rose was made to \"pop\" I guess. here is the Text that accompanied the entry:

He still cannot believe she is gone. All he wants is to lay down beside her forever, but he knows her soul will not rest. On the day he was to depart on his quest for blood and justice, he visited her. Growing from her grave is the most brilliantly red rose he has ever seen. A parting gift from his love? Her blessing? A final goodbye?
Make more sense now?:D

EDIT: I also note that I shot myself in the foot again re: image size. I need to stop posting such large images as they show every little flaw and foible.

I like the larger pics. Don\'t change a thing! I\'d much rather see the occasional brush stroke on a really well painted mini (like these are!) than a small dark photo or something photoshopped. Seriously, coolphototouchup.com wouldn\'t be nearly as cool of a site. =)

Great job on the lighting. Particularly on the purple chick. I see what you mean on the blend but that was a pretty stack contrast you were going for. I think it was nicely done.

I like them both. I think you are going to win the WAMP this month (now that I can\'t be in :( ). We\'ll see. The IP one is going to be a tough go. Duende\'s is similar but yours has more of a story to it. I like the scene and love the rose. Good luck on both!

For the sake of consistency, the painting is pretty heavy but the ideas are cool. I say consistency because I was talking about SENMM on another thread just now, and I also said that the basics of painting weren\'t quite in place for that painter just yet. Same here, but almost there. And they\'re quite cool pieces, so everyone\'s a winner!

No probs - I meant that it isn\'t very smooth. This style needs a very good level of technique and I think these pieces fall just short. Nice ideas though, and that\'s what it\'s all about.

Wel rev, I would be a normally little insulted by the insinuation I am lacking in skill, but let me put it this way: you try doing both in under two weeks. I know the witch isn\'t smooth: I have said so, but Havard is pretty damn smooth if I do say so myself. Not to mention its a smallish model.

I like the first one a bit more, but honestly it all looks really nice.

I think the technique you used/effect you were going for on the first one requires a really flawless application. Meaning that the mistakes that you made (few as they were) really were magnified by this application. In short, feel proud that you attempted such and advanced technique and it\'s visually accessable. Meaning, when you look at the model, it\'s clear that the little crystal ball is the source of the light. The one thing I noticed (and bear in mind you paint a hell of a lot better than I do, so take this with a grain of salt) is the the lighting/shadows on the face felt a bit too extreme for me. While the lighting may have been technically accurate, softening some of those transitions out to give an uninterupted view of her face might have helped. :)

Anyway, once again you have some really lovely looking models here, and I for one think you should feel excited about having attempted and successfully navigated a VERY advanced conceptual technique. Thanks for sharing, that way we can all improve. :D

In fact, I\'m quite pissed off now! Discuss Submissions. That\'s the name of the game. Discuss it I did and then I get a bit of ante! Sort it out!
