A Positive View on Games Workshop

Bang. Nail. Head. Why do so many of your posts make so much sense? One of these days, you\'re going to write something that makes no sense at all, and I will be there to point and laugh! BWAHAHAHAHA.

No, but really... arguably the most accurate and concise point made in this entire thread.

ugh, its still going.....

hummmm, i dont think that this thread has been completely negative. no one has come out and said \"gw stinks\" in the posts ive read. some people are down on them, but they arent haters - gw still makes minis, and we all like minis.

since CMON i have been exposed to \"whole new worlds\" of mini art. there are many manufacturers that i can choose from, with many flavors. GW is now just another face in the crowd to me. are their selling points any better than anyone elses?

a few things:
1) let the thread wander - you could no sooner control a tsunami than a cmon debate.
2) history is important. context is everything.
3) ill support whoever the f**k i want, FLGS, ebay, direct - to my benefit

nice rant rev!:p

uhm...

Rev:

Tomb Kings I think are a great army. THey play very unique and unlike other armies, they require the most tactical play or they WILL get crushed. Certainly an army for non-beginers.

In comparison, i do think Squats is kinda..lame....

But that\'s just me :)

I only read to the end of page two as I have things to be doing but heres an interesting theory:

Would Games Workshop be doing nearly as well if the did\'nt have Space Marines?

Now, where\'s Kep? Didn\'t he say he would be here when Sven wrote gibberish for once? :]

No more lame than early Orks, or the Ogryns, or Nurglings, no more lame than half of the Imperial Guard regiments put out.

The squats were merely abhumans , humans who had adapted over time to high gravity world, their bodies becoming more muscular with lower centers of gravity.

The models had personality.

What? That made perfect sense! Perfect sense! :D

Besides, far be it from me to point and laugh at someone else\'s willie, keen or otherwise.

Here I assume you\'re referring to the Khador Behemoth or quite possibly the Deathjack, as those two run $50. They are, however, significantly bigger than a dreadnought from 40K, and (unlike the dreads now?) are pure metal.

(If you don\'t believe me on the size, just compare pictures of a Cryx Slayer--which is roughly the same size as a dread--and that Behemoth, keeping in mind they\'re on the same size (40mm) base...)

I wasn\'t going to respond to this thread at all, but I figured I\'d act immature like everyone else and throw more gas on the fire. ;)

Yes, GW did some good things for the hobby. They did a good deal in marketing it towards the \"average\" schmuck, making fantasy miniature gaming not quite as much a thing that 40-year-olds living in their parents\' basements did. Sure, they helped push some of the quality levels to what we see now (comparing some old Citadel minis with Grenadier usually wound up with Citadel in a better light in my eyes), and definitely has been home to some truly creative and great sculptors in the industry (Elliot, McVey, and several others that I can\'t think of at the moment).

Ral Partha did a lot for the miniatures industry, too (though not the game side--they never could put a decent ruleset out), as did several other companies. Partha isn\'t around anymore, and neither are several other companies.

But...from everything I\'ve read in this thread, I have to agree with the \"Coffin Dodgers\": GW has passed their prime, and is probably on the decline mainly due to an arrogance that their stuff is the pinnacle, and everyone else makes crap. What is unfortunate is that GW *is* so pervasive that they are seen by many younger hobbyists as the industry. Quite simply, GW is not the miniature gaming industry, despite what they tell you when you go to one of their stores.

Is Privateer Press the industry? No. Is Rackham? No. No single company is the entirety of the industry, and that\'s a good thing. As long as there are multiple companies out there, then we\'ll see competition (not just for cash--for reputation of which is \'best\' for sculpts, rules, point-to-dollar ratios, cheezits, whatever), and that will keep the industry evolving. In evolution, it\'s inevitable that some things (in this case, companies) will die--as I illustrated before, other great companies have already joined the dodo.

Right now, I\'m into Warmachine, because it\'s a fun game, the models are cool, and the setting is cool. These three things are what I used to enjoy about 40k. I still think the setting is kind of cool, and many of the models are cool, too. But I don\'t find the game fun, so I really have zero reason to buy any more from them. I\'ll quit buying from Privateer Press, too, the day I don\'t enjoy the game anymore, and will (like anyone else who actually thinks and makes their own decisions, rather than being spoon fed by market-droids) find a game that meets what I want.

For myself, I don\'t buy GW stuff anymore, because I dislike the way the rules have changed (I enjoyed 40k v2), I dislike the cost it takes to build a \"playable\" army (which, as others have pointed out, is ever increasing), I dislike the fact that revisions of the rules in the future may--if they follow precedence--make models I currently own unplayable, and I really dislike sycophantic fanboys.

Squats??? LAME????

BLASHPHEMY!!! How can you not like a race of heavy metal,Hells Angel space dwarves? Stunties on motorbikes? They never took themselves too seriously and units of bikes looked so cool. :)

They should definitely bring them back as humourless, gothic automatons who are struggling for their survival..... Damn, they already did that storyline.....

I have to say there have been two or three periods (including the current one) where I didn\'t like the GW style. there was a point there where every figure had this dicky \"let\'s all hold our weapons in the air and stand diagonally on the base\" pose. The style changes, they change their methods. Who knows what the future holds.

I hope the company rolls on, and I\'ll buy what I like. If I don\'t like I don\'t buy.

What, you mean GW themselves? It sounds just like their recent performances lol That was a touch of clarity

I\'ve been in love with Games workshop since I was 15 and that was 16 years ago. Since there first box of plastic space marines (which some i still have). And I can say very truthfuly that I am still in love with GW. I love there history the most all that backround history. tons of it. I sit and read old whitedwarf magazines (pre american print with places that i\'ve never heard of like Glockinspeil. Where the hell is Glockinspeil. I don\'t know but they had a GW store there.) I agree that they\'ve got a big head now a days but I would too if I was number one in a huge world wide business. And I also agree with that if it wasn\'t for games workshop it would have taken me much longer to get into this hobby , if ever I would.

God what great fluff they have \"sigh\". My friend still has the old realm of chaos books. With all the history that they don\'t print anymore. So its kinda like the inquisition lives for real. Cause I know more stuff thats fallen into the cracks of the past. Im not bragging, I just think that its cool that there is more to know the furhter back you go.

FACT: I love GW as much as when I was younger. If not more.
OPINION: yes im pissed it costs me an arm every time I start a new army and I hate them for that cause I work so hard for my money(like most of us).
POINT: I dont care, I\'m still gonna play. And I\'m still gonna play. And I\'m still gonna play. I\'ll meet ya in the sandbox.
P.S. I didn\'t write anything here to piss anyone off so I\'m sorry in advance if I did.

Don\'t worry, there\'s nothing wrong with liking GW! :) It\'s just when people take negative opinions about GW personal and get all defensive about it that things become a bit tense...

I often wonder if people bring up threads like this so they can troll. You usually never hear from the people who like GW after the all of he complaining and such dies down.

Why do I get a feeling that there is a thread in the GW community, or some other forum where they plan stuff like this?
