A Simple Request

Hey Everyone,

Some of you already know that I had to fly back home to Virginia this week for a family emergency. My 20 year old brother, Joseph, was shot at a party on Sunday morning at 1243. It was a transverse shot to the abdomen that hit his femoral artery. His chances of survival were slim.

The doctors did everything they could for him, he recieved the best care, and fought as long as he could.

He passed away on Thursday morning at 205.

During his first couple of days he received 30 blood transfusions. Without that blood he never would have had a chance. My one request for everyone I know is that you go donate blood if you can. Just one pint can make a huge difference in someone\'s life.

If you are local to Manassas, VA you can go to a blood bank and make a donation in his name, Joseph Page. If you are not local to Virginia, please go make a donation anyway and think of my brother.

He was a good kid who never did anything to harm anyone. He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The guys who shot him were part of a gang here. The detectives are still working on getting everyone but the shooter has already been apprehended. I just wish I could be here to support my family through the trial that will be coming next.

For all of you who have already sent your prayers and wishes I thank you. The support I\'ve received from my friends within the mini community has been wonderful. I couldn\'t ask to be associated with a better group of people.

Thank you,

Meg

Oh dear! I\'m really sorry for your loss, Meg! :( Words fail me... this type of violence upsets me deeply. So pointless...

I already do :) Been donating since I was 17.

Condolences.
Likewise, I have a rare blood group so I try to get to the units to give blood whenever I can and country hoping allows.

My condolences for you brother Meg.

What a terrible and tragic loss! For the first time ever on a forum, I\'m quite stunned and shocked.

For what it\'s worth - (from someone you\'ve never met) - Please accept my deepest condolences too.

Thank you to everyone. It is quite shocking news. I\'m still trying to digest what happened myself and well I saw him, I was there when he passed on. Everyone has been calling and emailing asking what they can do. The outpouring of support has just been amazing.

If you already donate blood would you be willing to make an extra trip before the end of the month if possible? I know it may seem silly but this is something everyone can get behind in some way. If you can\'t donate blood please donate time or a small amount of money to a local hospital or red cross fund.

I\'m so sorry to hear that. Best wishes to you and your family as you try to cope with this senseless tragedy.

I am a universal donor (Type O negative), and make it a point to donate blood every year.

Take care of yourself.

Meg, I\'m so sorry for your loss and can only imagine what you\'ve been going through. I truly admire the way you seem to be handling it though, and your appeal has certainly converted me from a squeamish little girl to a man who\'ll face the needles next chance he gets.

Meg - Sorry to hear about your brother. Unfortunately I am unable to donate due to where I\'ve been, but will see what we can do around here to pick up some donations in his name.

Well it isn\'t often I visit CMON and have a cry, but I did today.

I am one of the slackers who have often thought about donating and never got around to it. I will find out where I can go this week.

I doubt there is anything anyone could say that would make this easier for you and in a way that is a good thing.

All I can wish is that you have a good long life so the memory of your brother stays for as long as possible.
