Thanks a lot guys. BAM, kind of like these ones where the grain runs the whole length?

Btw, googling elephant tusks brings up a lot of disturbing images of poaching, really sad stuff.

Hi Flu, found your WIP thread! I will be following along now. I would go with the thin lines on the tusks too. And then you could wash a tiny bit of a gradient over that. No need to go crazy, just add a little interest and knock them back a bit so aren't so white.

Exactly like that picture what you could do is work in reverse so add increasingly dark lines along the length then the darkest are very close to the base where they start with very short black lines then a few yellow/agrax earthshade glazed liberally overy the entire tusk ...that should do the trick....now go get that done young man I'm anxiously awaiting.:))

Well sorry to keep you waiting, but I was saving the tusks for the very end. However, the end is the next time I put paint on it, either tomorrow night or Monday. Here he is at 95%

The ore I look the more affinity I'm getting with this figure. It's looking very nice, my only thought is the metal strap on the barrel could do with a touch more weathering. Unless it's the photo that has given this impression.

Looking fantastic! Might be the picture, but check the lower tip of his left ear - seems like there is a transition between the pink and grey there that isn't as smooth as the rest.

And I agree with Gandalf, same goes for the hinges of the fallen door. I'd use some pigments on the door, that's a matter of taste though.

Very realistic looking. I might try and add a bit more highlights on his face to bring focus to his eyes. Also maybe on his trunk. It seems like the highlights on his head should be lighter than the ones on the rest of his body.

Thanks guys. Demi and oistene, I have addressed the issues you pointed out, thanks, and I'll use a little rust pigments on the hinges when the painting is all done.

In other news, according to facebook, 3 years ago today I finished my first ever Warhammer 40k model, before that I had done minis for two board games but this was my true entrance into the mini painting hobby.

A year later I redid the base, now I'm thinking of stripping it and doing a whole new paint job.

yes there he is, koth yan the elephant man! is that mini still produced? one of the first i painted outside gw universe :) love it!

It is still produced. After bouncing around some different companies a for a few years Antimatter Games bought a large amount of Bob Olley's sculpts for their Deepwars and Shadwosea games.

Thanks for sharing Flu , they have some really nice figures at a cheap rate . I bet they are not available here in Aus though.

Those Dreadnaughts are actually pretty challenging to paint. They don't have a face. I have two that need to get done. Maybe the next 'Models I Loathe' challenge ...
