Thanks all. Here's a little update:
just have to finish his two weapon hands and St. Mark is finished. Then all that's left is the steel beam and rest of the base.

Impressive work dude. The freehand is incredible and so vibrant. This is a very small thing and it may be the photos but at the moment my eye is drawn to the right thigh rather than the face. Maybe punch up the contrast there to refocus the main viewing point

Super well done, Fluisterwoud! The only thing I can see that would make it even better to my eye might be to reduce the scale of the freehand on the cape. Either way, it's looking awesome!

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll keep the suggestions in mind as I continue work on him. For now, I'm trying to think up a base.

I don't know the fluff (which you either care about or you don't), but that saw weapon looks like it would do some hell on a sculpture or something. Maybe you could show him defacing the imagery or iconography of his enemy? If you care about the GW fluff, or if he's perhaps for a GW-only competition, you could either adapt some canonical 'biographical' details or develop some bit of fluff that squares with the known history of the character.

I'm not too sure on the fluff, it's from the game Dark Age which is a post-apocalyptic setting. All I really know about this guy's faction is that they are called the Forsaken and they have a lot of twisted christian influences. I decided to go simple on the base, he's already standing on some rubble so I made the whole base a big pile of rubble!

My man- keep it simple!!! Well done as its ALWAYS A SHAME when the base iutshines the mini. Especially when the eye is def drawn to such a finely painted model such as saint "whoever" lol . I actually like the freehand very much like like the cape work you've done here. I live it at the scale it's at.

No way! Go for it! I love the base you've started! I might add some dirt on top of the bricks so it looks like the result of a real collapse. The underground pipe offers a ton of fun possibilities!
Actually, if you can strike a balance between BAM's advice and mine (so perhaps don't let the base compete with the mini in terms of the brightness of the colors used), you will have a real winner on your hands.
