Joce, I don't know much of the fluff of the old fantasy game, or AoS for that matter, but these new sea elves were created by Teclis, if that means anything to you.
Meph, they're screwed in. Got screws in the board and drilled holes in all the bases.
So there's a ton of ridiculously awesome pieces here, this comp gets tougher every year!

I don't know a whole lot about sea elves but I know they're not high elves, they're more like a working class elf that the high elves look down on. When I first saw the release news I thought a) they're gonna look daft with flying sea creatures on the tabletop and b) they're going to make awesome competition pieces with great water effect potential

I totally agree the soldier bust and the barbarian- should’ve been in the finalist list. My vampire suffered the sam fate.:/

I think a lot of entries are from other competitions with "ticket to cristal brush" like here in Canada we have the sword and brush competition who is a pre califier for CB, I saw this local dude David Faust with not one not 2 but 5 top picks, he did not won a single brush. Maybe that is why there is not so much room to add more top pick. How come David faust have 5 top pick!

Thank you much, KB, I'm glad you enjoyed them. BAM, you're the best! Sicks, thanks for the lore lesson, and you're right, these things will look dumb on the table. Fish riders flying through a mountainous forest? Ok. But yeah they will 100% make great display pieces.

A: You can try to difuse the light on that part, partially or totally (experiment) cover your light focus with a mesh or a semi-transparent paper (like baking paper).
B: Bounce the light/lights onto another surface (white cardboard or paper, f.ex.), do not point the focus directly to the miniature focus it to a white paper and put the miniature under that light filtered beam.
With those tricks, water effects should not shine that bright. Hope those options help you a bit!

Thanks for the tips, I got both the bust and the barbarian up in the CMON gallery now. As well as the barbarian on P&P.

Want to stress what a nice entry you had for CB, I spent some time with my eyes on it. Very lovely colours , base, and composition. Some considerable time and thought clearly went into this piece. Nice work Fluister.

I agree derek especially since I really felt The Who’s next was mikes ahead of the ork shaman,and plenty of the other finalist pieces.

Flunk, BAM, thanks a lot! It's great knowing that so many peers love the piece, it means more than winning an award. I even had a friend message me that he liked my work so much he wants to take up the hobby himself!

Haven't put paint to a figure since Adepticon ended, but I have been practicing the things I learned there. I took Michał Pisarski's NMM class and Ben Komet's loaded brush class. Both theories and techniques are very easy to understand and know how to do, they just need A LOT of practice to do them well. After many rounds of painting then stripping, here's the last Lan-styel NMM I did:

Really like that style of nmm, it's an end goal but for now I'll stick to the basics lol, I saw a video with Tommy Soule talking about his thoughts on nmm, it was both not helpful and helpful at the same time, it wasn't a tutorial as such but more the way of thinking, he said often people have already filled their heads with what you have to do for nmm but secretly it's easy, just a case of putting the right co!ours in the right place. It took me a few days to fully digest that but by clearing my head of 90% of the things I'd seen and read on the subject I actually found it a bit easier to get to grips with, now just need the practice to get it looking great

You are so gonna kill this- you derek are very Proff. At nmm you’ve got a ironclad commanding grasp on it. Your pieces say so. But with a real tip guy guy lan studios whatever he taught you has got me so intrigued and of envy in a healthy way that I might have to break open the scale 75 nmm a start to use them with something in mind other than greys and blacks and whites- DAAAAMN YUYOOOOOU
