Funny, I never got on with the gap she\'s got between her front teeth. And people say WE\'VE got bad teeth!

Rev - she\'s just trying to fit in now that she\'s got a house in the UK! :D

Thanks Rev!

I\'ll go take you out of my \"Suspect e-mail\" folder - although you are a pretty suspicious character!

Sorry for the double-post, but...

...just got the pic Rev sent me. (Thanks again!)

I\'m sorry, but what a bunch of pricks GW are! I can\'t see anything that would/should horribly offend anyone. (Of course, I grew up Catholic and am now a Unitarian Universalist so I\'m pretty much a heretic anyway! :D )

That paint job was awesome and I personally think Mr. Hardy was very classy - I personally would\'ve wanted to shove a hot poker up their :moon:

Unitarian! Mint! That\'s a good way to go - takes the blinkers off of your eyes and lets you look at other thngs. Marvellous :D

And no worries about the suspicious pics!

Hmm, yeah, after seeing the pics I understand what people are talking about. This is a very cool figure, with amazing freehand, but the banner really has absolutely nothing to do with the 40k universe.

you know, it\'s great how people put words in your mouth when you\'re not online every bloody day.....

i just read through the load of bitxching about my \'american style\' and \'doing his homework\' comments....to clarify, he should have done his homework on what GW feels fits into their IP and what doesn\'t, and the \'american style\' comment is entirely valid, countries have their respective styles, and although i\'m not saying any one of those is better than the other, all I said was that I don\'t like the OTT freehand bonanza that hardy uses, since I feel that it doesn\'t add to the atmosphere. Ok, this is also the view of many of the judges, who prefer to choose minis that fit the IP and atmosphere entirely.
the thing that pisses me off is that a few people, like Braveheart, have been trying to make me sound like I hate americans...BS. I use the american style, as well as the fernch style or the Uk style as and whenever the mood takes me, see my C\'tan, my rackham stuff or my normal gritty Gw minis. These styles don\'t have specific names, and have been named for their country of origin. The difference between these interpretations are very similar to differences in art styles, expressionism is very different from impressionism or modernism, but that doesn\'t mean that it is less valid, some people just prefer their monet over their manet...so to speak. I prefer my jakobs and joe\'s over your hardys and haleys any day. does that make me biased towards americans? no, i just have a specific taste, that I feel that style does not satisfy. so please keep your \'Tammy\'s a stuck up bint for not liking the USA\' comments to yourself....thank you. rant over.

Hoho lady! You write a thread that rubs people up the wrong way and you then tell people off for responding lol

This dark and gritty stuff has only been a relatively recent thing you know. Mike McVey was a colourful painter, and he set the painting standard for the company really.

Chill out Tammy! It\'s all cool! lol

no, i\'m quite right to get peed off for people that mamky my feelings on a certain painting style into a prejudice against an entire nation.....

I went back to the post to see why it was taken that way, and I can see why the Americans took it the way they did lol

It was quite pompous Tam. I know this because I can be a little pompous too at times :D

But don\'t sweat on it, no-one is holding grudges!

Yeah, I\'ve said it before, I find it amusing that a Mike McVey was the pioneer of what is now known as the \"American style\".

Man, here we go!

First, I totally agree with Finn that this is old news and hardly worth the arguement to be honest. There are obviously GW fan boys here, and also those who are sympathetic to Victor\'s \"wasted time\".

As for Tammy, and I quote \"It was very american in style, and if he had done his homework, he\'d have known that he wouldn\'t place with it. \" all in one sentence, not cut and paste from several. Now if you speak the same English as I do, I would say you are pretty much saying \"American style\", whatever that is, cannot win GDUK, that they would have to do their homework and paint in whatever style you have in your mind to win. That is how I READ it. I hardly consider myself an American style painter, although I do perfer the OOT freehand and NMM over the oh-so-boring old school metallic, nor am I even American for that matter. If you didn\'t mean what you said, just say so, don\'t chew someone out for pointing out the obvious.

I think that\'s her point exactly! Golden Demons in general aren\'t about creativity or being different no matter how well executed. It\'s about giving them what they want to see. And the American style(i.e. clean bright colors) isn\'t what they want to see in the UK. As long as people know this ahead of time I don\'t see it as a problem. (though it will discourage originality if people just want to grab hardware)

Golden Demons started the ball rolling..

It\'s possible that, in a few years time, no one will give a toss about the GD and their stupid rules. With manufacturers like Rackham, Dark Age and Privateer Press around...not to mention all the fantastic small companies....The days of the GD ruling the roost have to be numbered???

Problem is, none of the so-called competition is putting up a national competition in the UK. It costs money to set up the event, go through all the health & safety hassle etc etc.....

The only major quality show for figure painting is Euro-militaire. None of the Wargame type competitions are really up to it.

Maybe one day....

& just to contraversial I no not like the US style NMM & much prefer the dark blended styles of UK & European painters!
