finches?

I have two birdies, but I won\'t be able to take any pictures before a couple of weeks. I don\'t know the names in English, but they\'re small and gray with white vertical lines that run down their faces (sort of like tears, only less depressing) as well as orange beaks, and the male has bright orange cheeks.

They\'ve been around for about ten years now, and they still PANIC when I get anywhere close to their cage to feed them. I tried training them, but they\'re too busy being afraid to listen and make tricks. Seriously, they\'re the dumbest animals I\'ve ever seen.

... which is probably what makes them so lovable. ;)

are these the ones ? if so they are called zebra finches in english

I worked in a pet shop many years ago and they are always are nervous, almost like the woody allen of the bird world:D

Oh Margo, why did you shave the poor thing? And the whiskers, too! :(

This is so funny, I love the way people react when seeing my cat :)
He\'s a Canadian Sphynx, mind you. And they\'re not supposed to have either whiskers or fur!
But the funniest thing is, he\'s ... all tanned now. So instead of grey, he\'s chocolate brown and he\'s got freckles all over his body!

I guess Margo\'s cat solves the problem of hair everywhere:bouncy:

At first I thought it was a Devon Rex but they are completely hairless and yours Margo looks like it has some tabby fur on its face.

Absolutely! Why do you think I got a Sphynx lol
Although due to the hairlessness his pink belly is turning dusty-grey really fast, so I wash him about once a week :)

I had a... dwarf bunny? once, but my parents gave it away to someone who had a garden.

His name was Peter, god only knows why, he was of a greyish complexion and was a strange little guy. Sometimes he would look at a wall, take a few steps back, accelerate and ram sideways into it. I swear he chuckled after doing it. Also, when I was sitting on my computer chair, he would walk up to me and push himself under my feet where he would rock back and forth. That pet practically petted itself! :D
Furthermore, he fought cats and won. Yep. Every single time.
Funny thing was when my mother had invited some friends and one of them brought her litte girl along. She was, I think 3 years old, and was absolutely afraid of Peter. Peter also was afraid of her. They would sit on the floor in my room, eyeing each other carefully, until Peter hopped over to her and stood on his hind legs. Melanie (the girl) pushed herself away from him a little. Then Peter got bolder, got closer and (and that so freaking cute) extended a paw, much like a cat, and tried to gently touch her leg. She got really afraid and ran to her mother, which made Peter panic and he jumped into my lap and hid under my shirt. Poor little guy was shaking like a clawed fur vibrator (damn, this is one great symbolism).

When my mother comes home from work I\'ll ask for a photo, don\'t know where she keeps them.

I deserve a medal!

For resisting the temptation to indulge in all sorts of double entendre shenanigans regarding Margo\'s cat!

I trust the rest of you will demonstrate the same self control:innocent:

Mrs Slocombe would be proud of me.... (obscure Britcom reference):flip:

@margo: Can I copy those pics and send to a friend of mine? She has 2 sphynx cats and collects pictures of them.

@mosch: Sounds very cool. I\'ve known 2 people with pet rabbits and frankly they were the most boring animals I\'ve ever known. Just sat there most of the time and occasionally chewed through telephone wires.

Someone mentioned goats. One day when I can afford to live in a house with some space I plan to get a pet goat.

I\'ll get pics of my cats up soon, although if you\'re curious right now I did post them in the what do you look like thread with me in the forest.

Okay, here\'s my 2 housemates.
We didn\'t name them ourselves as they were rescue animals and already knew their names. They not only respond and come when called, but we\'ve also trained them to sit, stay, wave, stand and roll over.
Buddy is the fluffy one and Calpurrnia is the tabby.

Buddy has excellent clear blue eyes

Buy them all sorts of expensive cat toys and what do they really want? A shoe box.

Yeah, Vince.. I\'ve found the one toy that drives my cat insane is no more than a peice of cardboard put onto a long peic of wire that wobbles around.. He\'ll attack even if I\'t not moving!!! :p

Yep we went through that phase as well Besides the dogs we have 3 cats and they all love boxes although they still curl up under the coffee table in the mouse, also the one loves crisp packets and sweet papers just fold and knot them and she will play with them for hours, that and ping pong balls.:)

We\'ll make great pets

Finn, that\'s quite a gob \'Spike\'s\' got. Call me crazy but I can\'t help admire the blend from pink to purple going on on Spikes tongue in the photo you\'ve sent of your cheerful looking mutt. He looks happy.

My Mum has heaps of animals (she owns a farm) and the one animal that is sort of mine is \'Scooby\' a Fox Hound. Everytime I\'m fortunate enough to visit my Mums property I say: Mum Scoobies looking really fat, how many meals do you feed her? My Mum casually replies: \"Oh just three meals a day\". I say: Mum she only needs one meal a day and please, take her for a good walk she needs exercise.

Scoobs is a chubby mutt, and I love her. Everytime I visit my Mum I take Scoobs for a big walk and let her swim in the dam. She loves it, and hey, let\'s face it... When it comes to pets it\'s all about love, and a shredded pair of shoes or a good healthy amount of hair on your clothing.

OK, I\'m inebriated... It\'s past one in the morning and I\'m sipping on a fine Aussie red.

Cheers mate,
L.
