Always trouble with DownRatings look at this former 9,3 Cybot

Hi,

i have a short Question. On all my Entrys (i had a lot of here and for long) here i have lot of trouble with rapidly downratings. On my last Entrys it was so badly, that i had to delete it.

Look at my new Entry:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/90383

This Cybot was at 9,3 then with a few ratings goes down to 8,8.. and all Comments are 10 !

Do i anything wrong here ???

Many Greetings from Germany

No, not at all Mark.

You are just being a victim to \'sniping\'. It seems to happen especially to minis that make the \"top 10 of the last 7 days\" list.

Your mini is now averaging a 9.0, but I can understand your frustration.

I would be more apt to pay attention to the comments than the final score.

Yes, you did something terribly terribly wrong.
You gave a damn about the ratings.
Even worse, you cared when you had fewer than 100 votes.
Shame on you.

p.s. Any time you rate yourself a 10 you are going to be brought down.

I hope you\'re being a bit tongue in cheek there! It is a damn fine piece, and a rating below 9 is madness imo.

Unfortunately sniping always occours. And voting can be totally random. My three favourite minis (in my own gallery) rate way down the list in comparison to some of my less favoured minis. I suppose it\'s just subjective.
p.s.

remember that the voting adjuster thing takes away the random high and low votes after 50 votes (or i think it does) so the rating naturally drops a little to average all the 8\'s and 9\'s votes together.
bear in mind that a lot of people post a comment when something really grabs them so those scores will be high. whereas the average grazing voter might give only a 7-9 vote.

Well, I didin\'t include smileys because what I said was at heart serious, if said in a ribbing way. The scores are unpredictable. Don\'t get too caught up in them. Also, with fewer than 100 votes, the possibility of a large fluctuation is significant.
As to my last bit, well, it\'s obvious isn\'t it? If you start at 10 you\'ve nowhere to go but down. If you average 9, the only way to raise it is with a 10 vote (or actually a significant number of 10 votes). People are usually very stingy about giving 10s.
If you average 9.3 then a 9 will bring down the score. Most people would probably be comfortable giving that piece a 9 and guess what, that\'s the average score at 100 votes.

Thanks for the replys, i ask only because my other, older pieces was going badly down, too.

One had over 236 Votes and was going rapidly from 8,6 to 6,8 in short time, this happens to other pieces ,too. I have then deleted all :-(.

I´t was frustrating, you had a good rating over this long time, with many votes and then from one moment to another...

Once a mini gets past the 50 votes, it does drop in \'rotation\' a bit, so less and less voters will see it.

If a mini starts dropping after that many votes 230+, I could only assume you were specifically targetted.

I\'d hate to see you pull your stuff because of \'scores\' though, its too good to miss out on!

I\'m surprised this has dropped. I believe somewhere between 9-9.5 is sensible but closer to 9.5 in my mind. I think this piece is the dog\'s doodahs.

Don\'t take stuff off mate, it seriously hurts my eyes not to see such nice work :D

No offense is meant by this post, but really... who really cares what the scores are? Don\'t go crying and delete your work because you didn\'t get a 9. I think that is just rude and immature. Yea, I understand you spent a long time and put a lot of effort into that mini, and it shows. That doesn\'t mean that everyone else is going to think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. Just leave it up and take what you get. Everyone is different, and everyone has a different view on what they like. Sometimes you dont hit the score you wanted, sometimes you surpass it.

I\'d give it a 9.

Don\'t get all bent out of shape just because the ratings level out. Not everyone is going to give you a 10. You got to decide what\'s more important. Painting your figures or getting a rating on cmon. I\'d suggest ignoring the ratings and just paint for fun rather than to outdo the next guy.

:D

You got me wrong, i will not cry because i got no high votes, but when your work will go from 8,6 under 6, after it´was one Year allways in the 8th.

And then you got an anonym mail who laughs about this: \"Look we have you down now...\" This is strange and you will think about to leave coolmini...

Many Greetings

Mark, if you even get such an e-Mail, just ignore that crap. You know your mini is better. Someone with obviously nothing to do has voted you down. Whatever. Doesn\'t really change anything.

By the way, my scores suck and so does my painting :D Find consolation in the fact that you are better than me :D

This is a Great Dreadnought, I gave it a 10 (i think???)

If anyone is sniping your stuff they are just sad b*****ds who have too much time on their hands and not enough brains to know what to do with it.

people STOP bitching if your miniatures get downrated after a few days

it is friggin NATURAL because:

the comments you get usually contain 0.5-1.5 points higher ratings than the non-comment votes and you get more comments in the beginning, after a while the high comment rating ceases and the ordinary votes outbalance the comments
plus: the first people to vote on your minatures are your friends, people you know or people who visit the site on a regular basis and check the tl7d on a regular basis. these people tend to give higher ratings than the casual visitor

me myself, i rated it (only) an 8 for several reasons:
the painting is clean and nice but it looks like the whole miniature consists of two colous: brown and grey, and too much rust for my taste, especially since it seems that the rust is just evenly spread on the metal instead of gathering around \"cruicial\" points.
the base has almost the same colour than the dreadnought itself
as you already mentioned, the blending was most likely to be very comsuming and i wont doubt that in any way, but the rest of the miniature (and as i said before there is only a little \"rest\") cant quite keep up with it.
for me the edges and surfaces dont have lots of definition, no highlighting exept for the rust blending, and no depth. i know its hard to pull off on a dread but for me its necessary for a 9++
and there are some details i dont like about it like the \"5\" on its arm. it looks very dull edged and blurry and not as clean as it could have been (look at the \"B\", thats what i like ;))

still i think its a great piece and an 8 is not that bad of a rating and everything is biased anyways

@Joshua,

First many thanks for your comment :)

\"\"plus: the first people to vote on your minatures are your friends\"\"

I know non of the people from the comments, only Pit Design, he is in a Forum where i have joined a few days before.....

I want paint an old and worn cybot not an new on, so the metall is dull and have not so much reflections than an newer modell, this i have painted so...

\"\"\"rust is just evenly spread on the metal instead of gathering around \"cruicial\" points.\"\"\"

The Rust goes out from the nuts, around on all nuts is heavy rust, the rust is not evenly it´s darker to the nuts, hope you can see this on the photos, only where the 5 is it`s going out from the 5 and lighter here.

\"\"\"the base has almost the same colour than the dreadnought itself\"\"\"

The base has an other colour than the cybot, the cybot is on the blue side, but the base much more to the green, only a little piece in the front has the same colour. But the base was dull, too. I want paint an old and worn, (dull) Mini, that has not much newer sides and not to much reflections.

You´re right the B on the ground is better, than the five on the arm, i had a bit trouble here.

Again, many thanks and excuse my english it´s not the best.

\"\"people STOP bitching if your miniatures get downrated after a few days\"\"

I know naturally thats the first days it´s going up and down, i have wrote this because all of my old stuff was going down, too, masivly, and then i got this mail...

hey mark, i know pit quite well and i guess you will find some post of mine in the forum too, glad to have you on our forums ;)
I know non of the people from the comments, only Pit Design, he is in a Forum where i have joined a few days before.....

yes, that might be the case, people who post on the forums frequently usually get votes from their friends so i just connected the dots ;)
the fact that the comment-votes are always higher than the regular votes still remains

The Rust goes out from the nuts, around on all nuts is heavy rust, the rust is not evenly it´s darker to the nuts, hope you can see this on the photos, only where the 5 is it`s going out from the 5 and lighter here.

yes thats visible but i think its still a little bit \"over the top\", the rust covers almost 40% of the whole miniature and for my taste thats ... well, too much
of course thats just my personal taste, but my rating is based on my personal taste ;)

The base has an other colour than the cybot, the cybot is on the blue side, but the base much more to the green, only a little piece in the front has the same colour. But the base was dull, too. I want paint an old and worn, (dull) Mini, that has not much newer sides and not to much reflections.

yes, that might be the case but the problem is that it doenst show on the picture, and the picture is all i had to base my judgemend upon :\\

i didnt mean to offend you or anyone else, i was just tired of all these \"my rating plummets - investigation please!\" threads
its just sad that people gave you low ratings to get your score down, but deleting your pictures is the wrong way of dealing with that.
you should upload your work to show it to other people who can enjoy it and give you advide/feedback/tribute/whatever and not for a high score.
of course, im not saying that i doenst admire high scored :D

highest regards, josh

well, i had as good a look as possible, and, given the poor pics, I had to say I couldn\'t give it higher than an 8.
I\'m not saying it\'s poorly painted, but to be honest, the blurred pic\'s don\'t allow the viewer to see (with any clarity) the blending up close. It looks like it\'s been airbrushed, and frankly, I don\'t really like it - but that\'s just a personal preference...
I am sure if I could see the model up closer it *might* get a 9, but even then, it would be hard pressed.

Get over the disparity between scores, if you\'re here long enough, you\'ll get used to it. Ever seen a first place golden demon winner deserve a 7.7 after 600 or so votes? Well, here on Coolminiornot you will :)
The quality of the pics you take, make more of a difference i think sometimes, than the paint job itself.
