It's good. i like the grime. I think though, you may have to put a bit on the feet too. not a ton, just hints really to tie them together because it does look dirty not aged.

Thinking pigments on the feet rather than paint. Bit more control and the staining would be different between cloth and armour as the cloth would soak up the stain armour wouldn't.

Done the base for him cast it two part with plaster of paris glued it together and filled the crack with polyfiller and sanded. Carved out the metal flaging and added a bit of tubing for a pipe and some chopped up heat exchanger for grilling. My first go at making my own plaster of paris base and simply carving it quite pleased. This will be attached to a standard base but it will in turn slot into a hole on a squad diorama base. Shudder going to enter GD i think. Retch cant believe I said it.

Great work. Nothing wrong with attending GD. Competition, no matter what, is fun and helps you grow.

Though GW has some questionable models of late, the standard of painting at GD is always really good and it's a great event to talk to other painters at and pick the brains of the eavy metal lot too. To my mind, they are still some of the best painters in the world and are capable of amazing work when they decide to.

Ok some more updates painted the base I have to add some pigments yet to give it some depth and dull coat a bit of work on the shoulder plate and then should be good to go! Really really happy with the home made base Plaster of Paris rocks!

Super work mate, I really like how you've done him. I can't help thinking that the blade is the weakest part, can you smooth it out some more? I know you said it was difficult though :( Either way he's striking :)

Yeah the damn sword has been striped twice already been a bloody nightmare back and forth will try to smooth it some more for sure.

I can't believe how much grey you start with to get the nice reflection on the armour! The end result is stunning.

A bit more work done smoothed out the highlites and had a bash at the gold the white on the shoulder pads needs more work. I don't know why but I always struggle painting block white with any hint of shading, suggestions?

Maybe don't use pure white. Try a grey or tan/cream that is VERY close to white and then shade down from there. I used it on the dragon skull on the min below and went from a (GW colors) Pallid wych flesh down to whatever their new colour for graveyard earth is and then washed in the recesses with a brown, then a greenish brown then a black for the deepest recesses.

It was a very quick job on that mini 2-3 hrs in total, but I like the bone and will refine it more when I use it on a competition piece later. Is that close to what you were thinking? BTW, that gold is stunning!!!

You are damn good so why are you thinking of it as a white shoulder pad? You do not think a silver sword is silver and paint it silver do you? No you do that dang impressive nmm thing. So treat the sholder pad as a "white metal" nmm. (probably not very helpful ;), but take a look at this reference).

I would think of it as a white shoulder pad, you can do better :)
