Absolutely fantasy really does work well with NMM and grunging up a mini can take it to a new level .......... But more importantly....best bacon sandwich?

If I am not too late...classic BLT on sourdough with extra mayo.

Not done anything for a while. Got bloody awful flu over the Christmas hols and it knocked my painting mojo for six.

So last night l had a good trawl through my mini collection and started this special edition Wolf barbarian from haslefree. I wanted to do a small mini as I have been doing big ones for a while now. Quite pleased how it's coming out. Though the shadows need nocking back on the face will glaze some mid tone over them.

Great start mate, i reckon you could go a bit more with the hair

That hand, the veins, and the taut skin in the arms look really nice. Maybe a bit of red glazing on the knuckles would be nice, since the hand is relaxed?
I hope you place him in an interesting little scene, since his odd pose has always made me wonder what Wolf is doing, besides looking really buff. Is he confronting enemies, discovering helpless victims, surveying the spoils of his depredations, what? Maybe he's looking in the mirror after he's finished up on the bench-press.

Wolf is looking amazing! I love to see this level of painting on 28mm figures.
I can't wait to see the tavern setting. Will he be alone or glowering at a drunken dwarf or something?

Right upped the hair a lot I think it looks better. Cloak metalwork leather etc done glazes need doing yet to smooth the blade and the base needs doing.

Hair looks much better mate.
Maybe a slight flash of colour on the sword blade as a reflection of the ground ? A light brown or ever Orange

Love love love the chesticle hairs. That was a bold move. Only thing I can add is to highlight a few, maybe some fraud and whites or blondes here and there.

I agree that few glints in the hair would look good.
Andy, I hope you do some more 28mm minis soon. I love the way your technique shows up on these smaller models. I've never seen Wolf painted so powerfully!

You forgot to paint the face on his wrist watch...

Looks awesome and I love the little crescent moon symbol around his neck. This is probably just the angle of the photos but his face seems a little dark now the bear has been painted.

This further step with body hair was brave, but it works perfectly.
With your permission will took it as a reference to paint the barbarian mini from Arcadia Quest

Looks great Andy. The fur highlights behind wolf's right shoulder look to contiguous in the one photo. If they are like that irl they could use variation to break them up to look like separate hair clumps.

Darthmarsh the bear head overhangs the face and casts a beauty of a shadow I've highlighted the face all the way to white but you can't tell it on the photo but n hand no problem. chestickle hairs duly highlited BFK. Red brown glaze in the shadows lee you were right with that.

SaintToad you raise something that has been bothering me a lot recently......my style..I mean what is it?? To put this into context Lee who I feel I am the closest in level to has his own very distinct style kinda cartoony old school GW his paint selection shading techniques choice of minis all support this. Steff (Skeletets) has his techno barbarian uber dark grunge fest with extreme shading thing going on (nice nmm by the way ) Sprocket has his OCD insane level of precision super meticulous layering and yet again more GW than GW when he wants to be and a nod to old school French painting a la rackham. But what the hell is my style? Nooooo idea whatsoever.

Any way existential angst to one side I've finished wolf stuck him on a recycled base kinda a bouncer .....You Shall Not Pass! .......private function members only.

Works brilliantly on that base mate. The blade looks better also. I think you have a mix of styles depending on which part of the mini your painting.

Hmm yes but is it cohesive? is it time to find and stick to one style? Is this where I've been gong wrong? Dunno I feel I've moved along with brush control layering glazing etc etc so definitely a better painter than a year ago but am I just being a magpie copying other people's work when I should be innovating? I think it's time for a step up I need to produce something that really stretches my ability I need a full on project that is distinctly mine you know what I mean?

I wouldn't over analise it mate, you have got a certain style that I don't think you see. Your Thor and axenarf standout as your work that I could pick out of a line up of other peoples. Depending on what you are painting sometimes your style reminds me of John's work and other times Jarheads.
Whatever your style is it's working and improving.

I reckon you should paint something you would never usually pick, like I did with the snail and that turned out to be my best and favourite work so far.
