Is the helmet attached after you painted the eyes? Hmm need to look this figure up.

Looking forward too see where you take this one, also wondering how do you think when you start up a figure, do you plan where the light should come from, colors and mode of the figure before you start something or it kind of evolves while you work?

/K

I have a general idea of the lighting and colours I am going to use before I start the project I will frequently spend a day or two going through Putty and Paint and cool mini looking at other takes of a mini i am going to do to see what works and what doesn't. If there is a box art for a figure I will look at similar ish pieces so there is a fair bit of research done first. Also looking at peoples WIPs on here often helps.

Nope the helmet is integral to the head they aren't separate pieces.

I love this barbarian sculpt, they really nailed that one. do you fully assemble the miniature before painting? then im even more impressed :)

littlebit sad about the alphonse miniature though, it has been on my "to buy" list for very long time...

You can have the Damn Alphonse piece if you like pick it up next time your over maybe you can do something with it i f*cking couldn't for sure!

Yep it is put together before I paint apart from two dangley strap things dunno if i want them on or not will decide later.

Fantastic work this far horseman!!!when one feels this ecstatic about a model like you do with this one it ends up being a primo project above all others!!!

Ha, what was your issue with Alphonse? I've got a copy and didn't see anything wrong with it. I mean, there's some warping of the resin on mine which needs to get sorted. I can also see some of those parts being tough to assemble (small pieces and all). But I didn't notice anything that made me what to chuck it. Of course maybe there's something I didn't notice that will come up when I actually try to put it all together and paint him.

Nice start on the Black (literally) Sun Barbarian figure. Impressive job getting the eyes done inside that helmet! I saw photos of Euro one, really impressive piece. I can see you doing some fantastic stuff with this one. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on your progress.

Kretcher, this figures comes with two heads (one with helmet, one without) in case that makes a difference for ya.

Thumb prints on the resin the sculpting on the face looks like it's been done with a chisel hardly any flat surfaces to do blending on at all its nearly all edge highlighting the list could go on. It looked OK in the resin but when I base coated it and started to paint it it just went arghhhhhh! Really really don't like it at all! Hope that answers it for you Bailey. Maybe you'll have better luck than me! Give it at go and show how a master does it.:)

Anyway from that rotten piece to a sublime one. This barbarian just paints itself! Love it. Just started on the highlites on the flesh. Got to glaze and shade yet but all the same you can really see what a nice sculpt it is already.

huh, I'll have to pull out my copy and take a closer look at it. Even without doing that, I've got no argument that this barbarian is a much nicer model. Excellent work on the flesh. I'm eagerly awaiting your NMM on this guy!

Blacksun have pretty much claimed all my hobby money for at least the next year, I love their 75mm line, you're doing a great job on the barbarian (as if you needed me to say it :p)

Its yours Steff

More done on the flesh glazing and shading. The white background has reduced the contrast on the fig it's a bit brighter in hand.

Seems that you tamed down the redness/pinkness of the skin... I see more yellow/ochre in it now... looks terrific.

Started on the helmet. Going to take this slowly and do each bit of metal separately. No rush on this one. Got to glaze in some colours on the metal yet.

The flesh looked good before, looks even better now. Have you considered doing some blue glazes on the face to create a stubble look? Even if you want him to look freshly shaven, a thin layer or two would make him look a bit more natural in my opinion. I'd probably keep it light since the rest of his face is covered. But I think something to set it off from the rest of his skin would be a nice touch.

Your NMM on this guy is off to an excellent start. Can't wait to see the rest done up that way!

Ok Bailey will do!

Glazed the metal and started on the shoulder pad thingy going to do some scratches and underlighting yet on the metal of the helmet and stuff but at the end when I sort out the light source on the base.

The glints and scratches, along with a heavy brown/blue color gradient, has been giving your metals a magical quality lately. And as Bailey said, the flesh tones look perfect, as well. Given how many great painting surfaces this sculpt features, he guy should look amazing by the time you're finished!
