Any bets on the word association?

Gahhhhh!! Sorry, I bow to you, Supreme Overlord Temperance!!

*slaps self* \"Bad Owen, if you\'re gonna piss off anyone, don\'t piss off the moderators!\"

Well, how about we just say that all the \"happy 1000th post\" threads are ended if they get over oh, I dunno, a measly 20 pages? lol

Why, in my day, I remember when we got excited over a 9 page thread, kids respected their elders, and computers were 10 feet tall and talked in monotone voices.

You\'re doing a great job Temperance :) .
Personally, I think the longevity of a thread is best determined by the natural decline in it\'s interest to the CMON community (barring, of course; the obscene, offensive or other-wise unsuitable) .
Incidentally, Finn\'s references to supporting the site appear to have been taken out of context. I am certain he was mearly trying to elucidate his own stand-point, not insult non-supporting posters! He really is a very nice chap...both of him :)

I give it 6 months before it loses momentum.

I fear that I may have to suggest resurecting a horrible monster that I may have created, The Personal Question Topics. I think I did it with my first topic \"what\'s the most off-topic post you\'ve seen\", which oddly enough devolved into a topic of different pies.

If we begin it again we may do two things, push the limits on finn & Steelcult\'s patience, and maybe push word association down the topic lists.

BTW, Darthfoley, I really wanted to stop the WA thread as much as any reasonable soul and I enjoyed the comic intent of Finn\'s AWA thread (even if I was not quick enough to participate!)...but did you really expect a moderator to allow a thread of blank posts ??? .

And perhaps you missed the point of me closing the thread. How many people would complain if I closed the WA thread? (Actually, not too many because I think it\'s run it\'s course.)

but the repeated \'I can be a mean moderator if you guys really want me to\' threats are just plain silly.

You say that like I close threads out of spite. :) It\'s not being mean nor are they threats -- it\'s a question on if we need new guidelines on what threads I open or close. I guess what I\'m tired about is messages asking me to end something that the vocal minority is complaining about and the majority like it or (more likely) don\'t care about it.

Ultimately, it shouldn\'t be up to me, but the members of the board. (Or Chern Ann, of course.)

I just don\'t see much of a difference between a blank post and a one-word post.

Six o\' one, half dozen o\' the other, IMO. :)

It probably all stems from my deep rooted love the many forms of debate...all except the \'no i didn\'t/yes you did\' form, which is basically what the WA is to me. \'Tis why I stopped reading it. ;)

One is progressive the other is anti-progressive. Even if the WA posts appeared facile they proved to evolve into something more...in the end. The AWA thread could never, by it\'s very nature, have progressed at all (despite how funny it was!).

Ultimately, a thread where every post is indentical can be summed up in one post. At least the WA thread evolves. Do I think it\'s stupid? Yes, but if I closed every thread that was stupid... (I\'ll leave it up to you guys to finish that phrase...)

So be it. :)

All\'s well...pints for everybody...\'cept Finn... ;)

Of course, you could also post on heaps of threads that are older than the WA thread, thereby pushing it off the first page of threads that people see...

Out of sight, out of mindlol

Darn, I almost had it,
Here\'s to you Orchid Noir, ruining tonnes of work by posting on the WA thread...
I suddenly have a deeper respect for Finn,
it\'s tough work trying to make that many posts.

:wow: you have been busy, I\'ll help, but have doubts it will work, something with that many posts may need to be buried very deep indeedlol

Aw sh*t...

Originally posted by TwelveMilesOutIt\'s not that I feel Finn takes my opinions less seriously for my lack of a star in the right place (though this is the second time I\'ve seen him call attention to his own star), it\'s just that I\'m becoming more and more aware of my own lack. Maybe I just need to find Sylvester McMonkey McBean...
I am truly sorry if that\'s the impression you got. It is not what I intended:D
I couldn\'t give a toss about any of these star thingies, to be honest. My post was slightly ill-considered (as most of my posts are, tending as I do to \'shoot from the hip\').
Valid, open honest posts are worth their weight in gold. It doesn\'t matter if the poster is a \'Freak\' or a newbie. I have congratulated many newbies on their first post....
I was not trying to highlight my own star or the lack of other people\'s stars. Nothing could be further from my mind:flip:

You never gave the AWA thread a chance to degenerate. You shut it down in less than two hours:duh: How does that fit in with your scheme of \'light moderation?\'
You don\'t moderate lightly, you moderate as it suits your personal views. You just had a hissy fit at Atacam\'s post which, for a moderator, I would consider most inappropriate.

Interested parties might like to check this out:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=4002

He (Atacam) was basically right and you were basically wrong. You just jumped in with both feet and expoused your opinion...just as you jumped in with both feet on my thread. Neither you or I know how that thread would have developed, but I can guarantee you one thing, it would have evolved from the deliberately stupid birth I gave it, into a more serious debate...if it had had the chance.

Meanwhile the WA thread continues, you get upset by CGIs of cats having their heads chopped off and a large portion of the CMON forum denizens get increasingly pissed off.

Sorry for the rant. I used to like you before you became a moderator and got a power rush.

As an example of said \'rush\':

You said, and I quote, that you were getting: \"a little tired of people....\" HEY..wake up and smell the coffee...that\'s us you are talking about\"

In case you hadn\'t noticed, we are the people:flame:

Did I close atacam\'s thread? No. You\'re right -- I voiced my opinion. I think it\'s a tasteless movie, I don\'t think it belongs at CMoN, but I didn\'t close it.

I closed the AWA thread because it served no purpose. There already was a thread for discussing the WA thread -- this thread we\'re in now -- and we really don\'t need anymore.

I\'ve become aware of the problem that we need more guidelines on what is and isn\'t appropriate on these forums. I\'ll be drafting up some ideas to discuss with you guys.

I\'m sorry, Finn17, that you feel that I\'m on a power trip. I think I\'ve only closed one thread in the last 4 months -- yours.

I\'ve now closed the Word Association thread now, so that\'s two threads.

Closing it now was possibly a mistake....

At this juncture, closing the WA thread was possibly not a good idea.
Force of argument should ultimately prevail and, your tacit support of the idea that \'it had had run its course\' would have achieved the desired purpose a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunatlely, your choice then was to contribute to the thread....
I fear now that the waters are even more muddied. If I were you, which I am not, I would open it again and hope it chokes through more \'peaceful and democratic\' means.

Oh joy:bouncy:I am a celebrity:flip:

You closed it in under two hours with only thirteen responses. I admire your ability to predict it\'s trajectory....:D

You also signed off your post with the words:

\"Consider this thread a casualty and possibly the norm if this behavior continues.\"

Please tell me why I should not consider this sort of comment about a senior, subscribing member as anything other than offensive?

You are welcome.
I am sorry to see it died, it was a fun place to go from a member that had not posted to a participating part of the forum (as I have posted elsewhere since).

Though I am sad to see that people resorted to getting nasty on a thread so many were enjoying just because they didn\'t like it. Reminds me of school, I hated school.
