I\'d like to take part in the competition but there\'s no way I could finish this mini by Monday. It would be a surprise if I even finish his hair and beard by then.
However I\'ll surely take a look at the competition entries and maybe \"borrow\" some ideas for my Dwarf of for my next AOW model. I see they released a nice warrior priest...
When you say blood red as the highlight colour, you mean that you mix it with the base colour or apply it directly? Because it looks to me (the highlights of the hair)more orange than red.
It looks realy grat so far. Keep up the good work.
@Corgan: Actually I follow mousekiller\'s tutorial for the hair. The hair seem orange as I first tried to drybrush the highlights and since I didn\'t like the result I started layering the highlights on top. So I don\'t mix highlight colours together but I use them on top of the drybrushed orange highlights. And I\'m using the quite dilluted so thay blend in a way with the previous highlights.
@Monkeysplitters: I\'m not sure it needs more shading. The final highlight will be a quite bright yellow so I think there\'ll be much contrast. Unfortunately the only pic I have of the part of the hair that\'s finished is quite blurry but shading looks good in real life. However I may go back and reshade the parts where large groups of hair meet.
I know I\'ve not done much progress lately. Too many things to do and recovering from a cold didn\'t help either. I hope to pick it up again sometime this week.
It seems I got sidetracked for a very long time. An essay, exams and motorcycle maintence got in the way of painting. I\'m a bit more relaxed now and I already made some small progress. Still highlithing the hair and beard but only 2 stages to go now...
It seems the hair and beard are finally finished. I may do some touch-ups ore rehighlight the highest parts but other than that I\'m quite pleased with the result. Surprissingly the photos turned out deccent as well.
I\'d be really tempted to tone back the hair with something like \'Dark Flesh\' or even VMC Hull Red. The hair has a hint of yellow to it. Just a very thin glaze would do it.
It would have the advantage of keying it in with flesh.
Actually the last highlight was with yellow (can\'t remember which one at the momment). I\'ll keep it for the time being as it makes the hair look \"fiery\". When the mini is finished and I\'m down to final corrections I may revisit it if it seems over the top or doesn\'t tie with the rest of the model.
Now that I\'m done with the hair I\'ll probably do metalics which are my favourite. I have strayed too much in unfamiliar territory with the hair and flesh. lol
After a very long hiatus I think it's time to resurect this thread. The mini is now finished. Yes you heard it correctly, it's FINISHED!. To be more precise it's almost finished since I still have to varnish and flock it and alsdo add some blood effects but the hard work is over.
Bigger pics and WIP shots can be found on my shiny new blog (link on my signature).
At the moment the mini is essentially finished as I've varnished it and all that remains is flocking (I'm thinking about snow but I'd like to hear your ideas as well) and blood effects. Luckily a friend can lend me his pot of tamiya clear red which I'll use for the blood effects since no local stores cary it.
