I'm like you - rubbish in small groups, happy in front of 1200 people. No idea why, but it helps in my work (and hogging the limelight as a guitarist/singer). And I'm slooowly learning piano, so find I have to believe it's never too late...

Dazz is what we would call a Savant lol. Whats this, a piece of metal and welding torch, never touched either but lets see what we can do. Well this was my first attempt, what do you guys think?...

I can now say I got both of those theatre things LOL
Curiously enough those are almost direct translations for what we also say in Spanish:
Stage fright = Miedo escénico
Going blank = Quedarse en blanco

@Maenas - It's an absolute pleasure. I couldn't imagine trying to chat on here in my second language (Afrikaans) - you do really well. Interesting how similar the expressions are.

Next project idea

So I've hit upon my next sculpting project/challenge. I love mythology and its associated beasties. I was idly Googling for reference pics, waiting for something to leap out at me and yell "sculpt me you fool" when I found this gorgeous image:


It absolutely captivated my imagination, so I'm going to try to create something based on this. I'm considering giving her wings in the tradition of the Greek sphinx. Now to talk pose. Should I have her lying down or sitting on a rocky outcrop of some kind? I'd love to know your thoughts in the matter.

I'm starting with her head because that'll give me a good reference for size for the rest of her body.

She'll also be sculpted in a dark blue because I'm continuing my experiments with different polymer clays and found some Fimo Soft to try out. The dark blue was the colour they had in stock, so that's what I've got to work with.

Great find! That's a lovely piece of art and should make a terrific sculpture. I'd say go for lying down on a rocky outcrop (I know, that wasn't one of the choices). But if she is lying down as in the picture then the pic can be a better reference for you. And I imagine her lying around, Cheshire Cat-like, watching some adventurer wander past below. :)

@khavor - Welcome to my little slice of CMON. :D Lying down on a rocky outcrop is most definitely a valid option. And I love the mental image you have of her. :)

Great reference. You could almost have her lying down and basking in the sun. Front paws crossed, eyes closed, head resting on her forearms. Excentuate the feline aspect of her. Sphinx at rest dreaming up her next riddle

It has a feeling in it... I would love to see your advancements on this one! oh and I like both ideas from darthmarsh and from khavor... Only thing I do not quite like is that trying darthmarsh idea you won't paint her eyes and that would be a terrible pitty!! I mean sphinx eyes is there anything more wonderful?

@Maenas - I'm glad you like her. There is a captivating quality to the picture. I've been working on her since I posted the image, but several versions of her head have been scrapped along the way. I persist however and will post pics as soon as I have something I'm happy with to show everyone.

heya arch! you've found an awesome reference image there. she's so serene and regal, so naturally i want to see her playing with a big ball of wool.

i can't wait to see her in dark blue, it will look amazing on her!

@meaty_nosebleeds - Glad you approve and your mind works in similar ways to my own. :) But I think I'll resist giving her some cat toys this time.

@BAM - We'll have to wait and see I guess. :)
