As this is like a tradition, she has another two that I computer designed for her with celtic designs, I took a more plastic approach this time by painting everything by hand. I put a stripped design on the back with the colours of the irish flag. And a sort of multicolour broken ceramic design (trencadís from Gaudí) on the front, that's inspired on the logo from her Irish dance school.

Really does sound very cool Maenas. I'm a notebook fiend and love handmade ones (including hand decorated). Could you send me a picture when it's done?

I'm thinking about moving on to the lesions, pustules and boils next so I can better assess what needs to be done. Any thoughts are welcome.

Did you check Sprocket's blog? He has some really nice tips for slime and gore there, as well as some nurgle-inspiration.

Thanks for the warning oistene - that is incredibly sweet. Since this is only mini number 8, I fully embrace my novice status and most of the time am inspired by such gorgeous work. I'd be lying if I said it never makes me briefly contemplate destroying my brushes and walking away. But fortunately (for me anyway - not necessarily for you poor souls who have to put up with me!) I usually go back to "oohing" and "aahing".

LLol look shelagh I cannot tell you how many minis that I feel were 3/4 there way to comp quality and I was so mad that I couldn't glue a dagger or get a blend right,and let's just say at that point I like to say I've tested the structural integrity of the mini or hoe Dragonsreach my brother says "giving a mini free flying lessons,but this is what I'm gonna say.I usually one to boost morale so I'll say this: no human being takes interest in something ,anything sports,music,crafts,arts,career,nobody ever wakes up goes to the bathroom and says wow you know that thing I absolutely love do I g ,well...TO DAY IM GONNA TRY TO BE THE BEST "MEDIOCRE" AT IT. no one ever says or thinks that.so your human your competetive,you have drive.you have some dough for minis and brushes and even some paints.you have access to internet ,along with the greatest group of helpful lads the cyber world has ever known..but most of all you have intelligence ...intelligence that has you realize to use all these things at your fingertips ,to continually do over and over each prior step laying down and mastering each step before moving towards the next ,motivation and u Der stand to not only apply what we say but to realize that you'll continue no matter how great you become and in the next minute to realize there is much more to learn,a drive ,that no matter how bad it seems sometimes and how many times itl feel HEH IM NOT GET TING THIS,OR I'LL NEVER GET THIS SCORE THIS. But that's where that drive and passion comes out like it did for me ,you and every other single person....to not give up ,not quit because it's hard but that knowing once learned (and you've already shown learning the material at a much excelled rate) you'll be giving yourself and everybody else that magic roller coaster feeling in the pit of your /their being once you and all finally gaze on that first mini that you know is a top job ,you know the kind where a little voice in our head says "HOLY SHIT IT LOOK LIKE THAT OF THE PROS,THE SEE LESS BLENDS,THE WONDERFUL USB THE NUANCES,THOSE WONDERFUL WEATHERING EFFECTS THAT B A M GET ON HIS MINIS.LOL THIS IS WHAT YOUR UP AGAIN ST SO I'LL END BY SAYING LETS GO ,LET GO AND GO PAINT SOME MODELS.....every time one passes through you hands you get that much better.

Anot her tip I can give anytime you see a mini you must get used to breaking it up for example looking for edges ...edges like around the stomach wound or around that circular pustules these will all get in the end after all hogling and shading and blood effects after al, done you'll apply very light thin and tight (neatly as possible) on these edges .all minis have them look forward to picking these apart....Ide also like to say the colors you pick are as important as the techniques for blending etc...so on you literature reading list are two books 1st-FIGOPEDIA (ENGLISH VERSION) FROM JEREMY BONAMANT TEBOULE / AND THE BOOK CALL ED -COLOR THEORY - BY BETTER EDWARDS..GET THE SE THEN YOU'LL HAVE MUCH MORE THAN A FUN SAME TALK LANGUAGE OF COLOR,FIGURE PAINTING ETC...MUCH LIKE DRS AND SURGEONS POSSESS when they study medical suffixes and prefixes....e.g. distal/medial ,radial/ulnal, posterior/anterior,thoracic/cervical/lumbar,central/deep.....other words for the language Dr's share ....cranial/ femoral you get the picture..the reason they do this it gives all medical staff an exact meaning of the affected area they are looking at.....a medical code language...so you too will understand when and what I'm talking bout when I say things....if you want to get better and I already know you do..as a matter of a fact I know it's nothing you want more (simply -thats the power of art and expression from mini painting) then you need to get your knowledge of mini painting expanded..you already have the physical and hands on part down.now all you need is the literature...cause I'll tell you exactly how its gonna work the way it did for me and the majority if other students and painters I've advised on here....you gonna read your gonna apply your gonna hear things from others like me..and at many diff times because you've read now your going to have MANY MANY MANY. A-HA MO ENTIRE and at those moments that be when you say I've just leveled up because that's what john was saying.or that's what Jérémie meant....

@BAM - The Betty Edwards book I've managed to track down locally and I'm waiting for it to arrive. Figopedia I'm going to have to put on my Christmas or Birthday (January's not thaaaat far away...) Wishlists.

I love those "aha" moments you mention. It's especially cool when they sneak up on you.

Quick note

I've kicked another assignment in the teeth so I'm free to paint for the rest of the evening! (It's just past 9pm here).

Working on my Nurgle Lord's pustules and lesions. As a side note: if you want to gross yourself out do a Google image search for "pustules".... :tremble!:

And my man is painting! He's been meaning to get to it for ages and has finally had a chance.

A good way of painting pustules is start with a layer of bone, when dry glaze with red, allowing each layer of glaze to fully dry, apply more layers of glaze staying closer to the outer edge each time. When you've got the desired effect add a dot of off white in the centre. Should look like it's ready to burst

Thanks wgs - that's sort of my idea, but I'm also playing with different colours and a few of GW's technical paints so my approach may change as I fiddle. Also going to incorporate some orange into a few to create some variation/interest.

So I've had a fun night of painting so far. I've finished off the skin for now and have started working on some of his armour. It's just a basecoat at the moment - still a lot I plan to do with it.

For some reason my cellphone camera has washed out some of the colours. My apologies, but this should still give you a general idea of what's going on.
