Great work, Arch: your armature work is already beyond any of my 'scrunch-tinfoil-into-a-ball-and-slap-Fimo-on' efforts. I can see your meticulous nature really helping you on the sculpting side of things; I'm far too impatient.

Your cat cat looks good so far - very Chibi. You could probably have got away with less clay at first to build up layers: not a problem at all, but it means he's only going to get fatter. This is going to be one cute and chubby kitty.

I'll until he's done before I suggest any names. That's one of my weird little rules for my own sculpts: I always think it'll be harder to bin them if they have a name...

oh, and I feel neither guilt nor shame at leading you on the sculptor's dark and forbidding path. That's what friends are for!

The mental image I have of him is of a big-boned Pixar-esque feline, so it works for me. I don't want him to be too goofy and cartoony, but he's definitely not a modeled-to-reality character.

With regards to naming him: I need at least a working name to prevent me from rage-scrapping him if I get frustrated. Maybe the Egyptian for cat: Mau....

I find the clay takes some getting used to working with. Trying to find that balance between pliable and too sticky - it's summer here and apparently I have warm hands so I've taken to working with small pieces at a time. Seems to be a workable solution so far.

You are a fabulously bad influence and I wouldn't want you any other way!

What about Lancelot? It's the same as the Teddy bear from Labyrinth movie because this little cat it is still "hugable" hahahaha

I have the opposite problem: it snowed here yesterday and the clay is cold and crumbly... As am I.

Hehe. Working with Fimo is quite fun and it's nice that it's not messy and you don't need lots of equipment. I work on the couch while watching movies or TV.

I'm jealous - I've only ever seen snow once and it was a small patch at that. You may want to try putting the clay in a ziploc bag and floating it in warm tap water or putting it in your pocket for a few minutes.

Ha, that is an awesome start you got going. Very clean so far, which I wish I could get in all my sculpts. As for a cat name, hows about Anu. (Short for Anumbis) kind of ironic for a cat but cats can aspire to be big mean dogs too, sounds like something crazy I would do anyways.

@Digga - I've just been smoothing it out with my fingers so far. There are a few fingerprint ridges here and there, but I figure I could always sand them down once he's baked. Or I'll try bgcdazzler's acetone trick. But I'm glad you like him sensei. Name suggestion added to the list.

You seem to have a similarly devious mind to mine WGS. That is one possibility I had considered.

Okay, so since WGS has gotten pretty close with his guess I'll elaborate a bit on my idea. I want to have this ambitious little fellow walking in his family's home just inside the front door with something wedged partly through the open cat-flap behind him. I did consider several options (including a dragon leg), but have decided to go with a large disgusting tentacle which is obviously attached to some large and scary beast. Just the tentacle will be visible as I want the viewer to decide for themselves what exactly might be behind the closed door.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

The tentacle sounds fun (with the added bonus of being easy to sculpt). You could have the cat either badly ruffled and bashed, as if from an epic fight, or perfectly unruffled.

If if you go for unruffled it would look great to over-emphasise the contrast between small cat/big prey and put a little bow in its hair (like the little white one in Aristocats).

@bgcdazzler - At the moment the idea is to have him unruffled and inordinantly pleased with himself. It's the image I have in my head - plus, as you mention, it'll be a fun contrast. He's a boy cat so no ribbon I'm afraid, but definitely a collar.

Welcome to the fun world of fimo! Love you little kitties and nice work on the body frame. I've been using fimo for awhile now and love the stuff. Just a word of warning on the sanding, some colours don't like it. Here is a taste of what I do out of it:

I have a more than sneaky suspicion that I may become easily addicted to playing with Fimo. I intend to prime and paint him when he's done so hopefully the sanding won't be too much of an issue. Your horse is a delightful character.
