I tried explaining to my wife where Space Marines come from.
Her first reaction was that it removes the best and brightest from the gene pool.
I had no response. Unless they\'ve changed the fluff, she\'s right.

True, on the other hand, most of the Marines are recruted on death worlds. So by taking them off their world they get to fight for the greater good ... wait a minute ... that sounds a bit like some philosophy of those commi Taus .

Anyway, Canseco was a baseball player, and he publicised the abuse of illegal steroids in the sport and caused a bunch of his former associates to be hauled up in front of Congress to testify concerning the scandal.

Mark McGuire (broke Babe Ruth\'s HR record) testified he never used steroids. Couldn\'t explain why he\'d shrunk about 5 suit sizes since he retired though.

A world where the planet is wild and the lifeforms hostile. Baal, Fenris, Medusa, and Catchan (even if Marines aren\'t recruted on that world) are typical examples. The humans are kept at a primitif or feudal level so that constant warfare and tribal bounding can naturally give a beginning of \"education\" to the Marines.

The big exception is the Ultramarines where they have a much more \"roman\" approch to it.

Right heres my thoughts on the \"Marine Problem\"-

As others have said, in the strictly monaistic society of a space marine chapter, sex is simply inappropriote. As many well know, one of the core themes of marines is them giving up their humanity to protect the rest of the imperiums.

Secondly i daresay there are \"suppliments\" in the diet of a marine that would supress such needs and urges when they become over powering (god knows how Dante survived 1000 and still more years alive with no sex without some aid). In that way marines are not strictly \"sterile\" but that unfourtunate urge is less prevailent.

Thirdly, there are cases, particularly within the White Scars where marines live within the community and even are wed to women, so one must assume they are not so \"robotic\" that they are incapable of empathy or the basic masculine feelings of protection for other, less strong, human beings.

Then of course getting taken through puberty on 19 types of major surgery, religious indoctrination and ceaseless arms training can seriously mess with a young humans mind, its kinda like controlled child abuse so by the end of it a marine is a very disturbed, if beneficially so, individual.

But generally i would say that marines part and part through dietry suppliments and the strict training can control any urges for manual self gratification or gratification of any kind, that said they are not incapable of feeling for women, but all is under strict control

Dude, women can pass a baby through that thing. And there are supposedly some outrageous sized wangs in the \"adult industry\". I doubt even a 7 foot tall guy would be so well-equipped that an average woman couldn\'t accomodate him. Besides, maybe the physical enhancement they receive doesn\'t affect \"that\"

I can\'t believe I just read two and a half pages on the sex life of a space marine (or lack thereof).

I\'m sure they have nice sterile woman/blow up dolls back at home base to relieve those urges. After all, I\'m sure they ned some way to blow off steam after a long hard campaign.

Honestly, if proportions are correct, then a 7-8 ft. guy has to be pretty... well... endowed. But, as a friend with that kind of experience said: \"It\'s no use toting 9 inches of meat if you can\'t use it properly.\" And I dare doubt that even a thing of such size falls under \"weapon training\"...lol

I dont think the \"Marine Meat\" really gets that much of an enhancement during the process of becoming a marine, that said there is a organ implanted which stimulates muscle growth.

As for White Scars and their spouses, i assume its a practically wholley platonic affair with very little in the way of actual sexual activity due in a large part to the suppliments marines have spent virtually their whole life on- They would probably simply not know what to do with feelings of sexual desire. The woman on the other hand enjoys the fact that her husband is tall, macho and musclebound without having to satisfy the constant pervasive need for sex. Besides, the thicker blood and higher pressure its pumped around the marines body could mean erection would be an....interesting experience to say the least. I wont even go into the ins and outs of having your torso covered in plugs in a romantic situation either....
