Article: 50th GT winner!

Yay, I\'m happy to have something I\'m able to enter this month, which is now up in the GT gallery. I actually had two I could have entered, both similar scenes I was commissioned to do.

The one I entered took fourth place in diorama at GenCon, the other made first cut. I agree with the judges\' decision, but I\'m not sure I can put my finger on WHY I agree, other than I think maybe the fall setting of the first is a little more visually interesting than the summer setting of the second. If anyone has any thoughts on that, or any other criticisms, I\'d be very happy to hear them!

Fungal Growth for GT 50

Let\'s talk Fungal Growth now. I see that the poll format here is limited to only 10 answers. This is not good if there are more than ten entries.

Perhaps we can discuss or suggest who may have improved right in the thread, and when there is a concensus, we can decide!!!

To start things off, I nominate Wren for the Mourning the maker vignette which shows a great thought for the overall composition, and a really great improvement in painting skills from the last time she won...

What do you all think? Any other ideas?

Yep, there\'s a huge difference there. I love the face on her GT entry. Looks full of sorrow and grief.. great piece.. very moody.

The soil effect is excellent too, as well as the sword.

I\'m aiming to win this award in the future too :) so look out!! lol

Franciuus! Check out his entry right here on CMoN...

LOKARIS on CMoN :beer:Vote Now:beer:

The album at the GTs has been updated to show the final voting and the winning entry.

Please help decide the Fungal Growth winner if we are to keep this part up.

So far, we have two nominations for Wren\'s entry. Check the rest in the GT50 album...

Congratulations franciuus! can\'t chose a better person to \"lose\" against ;) Very natural looking mini, you deserved it. looking forward to meet you in Italy again :)

Thanks for the nomination Glyn, and the kind words. I had a question about the Fungal Growth for considering people for nominating and such. Are we to consider only their work as entered into the GT, or their body of work as a whole?

Also my apologies for not having commented on GT50 yet, I am still intending to comment on the entries when I get a chance.

Well there is a copious selection of works in teh GT archives, and new painters can enter often to build up their collections. Of course, having soem discussion here, at CMoN is great because they may have lots of older stuff posted here too!

I am pretty open about it really.

I\'ve had a look at Wren\'s stuff here on CMON. Improvement easy to see so I\'d support/vote on the Fungal Growth nomination.

As for where to see painters work for future nominations, in my view it should be wherever it\'s posted, not just in GT, but there should be a minimum number (how many???) of GT submissions. I think ;)

Absolutely. A first time entrant will likely not win :) This is why it is cool to enter every month if possible. It\'s easy to look through painter\'s albums as well on the site.

Grumb

Wren is a good nomination Glynn.

I would also like to nominate \"Primeval\" Kevin D. He has entered the GTs multiple times, and each time I see his work it gets better and better. The conversion work on his GT50 entry is very good, as is the quality of the painting.

Here is Kevin\'s entry from December 2004:

And that\'s my 2 cents....

Cheers,

I\'d like to second Grumb\'s excellent nomination. Primeval has stayed true of heart to his favourite subject over the years, but has been experimenting with different skin tones and other techniques, as well as advancing in doing conversions, and I think his achievements merit recognition.

Yeah Kevin is also a past winner, but the improvement is stellar!

Thanks for the input folks :) Maybe if we a few suggestions like this *remember this is a trial and error thing at present) we could have a poll with just those ones?

The recognition is great as it is I suppose :)

If a poll excluded winners of the top three spots that month, and first time entrants, could we get it down to the under 10 requirement? Or could we pester Chern to give us a better poll since he is on a bit of a CMON home improvement kick lately? ;)

Also just to let people know, I\'ve finally had a chance to enter comments on last month\'s entries.

Eliminating some entries is a good idea, though we have had the GT winner also win the Growth for astounding composition on one occasion :D
