I was at one of the local US GW Hobby Centers over the weekend and was discussing the new Foundation Paint Set with staff. The Set is currently available for pre-order and the pre-orders will be available in April. They are only manufacturing a limited production of this Set for pre-order in the US, I believe the number mentioned was somewhere around 1,000 to 1,500 total, with about 600-odd pre-order sets remaining. Don\'t quote me on the exact numbers (my memory for numbers is horrible), but I was talking with a store manager and a district manager and exact numbers aside, the general impression is that they are expecting to fill all the pre-order availability for the Foundation Paint Set fairly soon due to demand and that once this limited production availability is filled, everyone else will have to wait until the general release later in the year.
General release of the Foundation paints is scheduled for Late Summer 2007, which I was told would likely mean July or August. The current preorder price for the 18-paint set is $45, working out to $2.50 a pot, and they will cost more (I\'d wager at least the current $3 price of the regular non-metallic paints) when released later in the year. If I\'m understanding correctly, these new paints will not be sold as a set once in general release but only as individual pots.
They currently have the sets in-store now for \"testing\" and it\'s a pretty good spread of undercoat colors - I didn\'t get to try them out myself, though, as I didn\'t have a lot of time. The new paints are primarily colors to match most of the popular armies\' main base shades and an assortment of other general-purpose undercoat hues (red, flesh, yellow, green, purple, blue, etc.)
Here\'s all the colors in the Foundation Paint Set, which come in 12mL flip-top pots:
Iyanden Darksun (brownish-yellow), Tallarn Flesh (brownish-pink), Adeptus Battlegrey (black-blue grey), Mordian Blue (mid-range blue-white, a little lighter than Enchanted Blue), Mechrite Red (a little lighter and not as blue-tinged as Scab Red), Calthan Brown (generic mid-brown), Khemri Brown (dark brownish-grey), Macharius Solar Orange (brownish red-orange), Orkhide Shade (black-green), Gretchin Green (a drab, darkish olive), Fenris Grey (dark blue-grey), Dheneb Stone (neutral grey), Charadon Granite (black-grey), Astronomican Grey (light bluish-grey), Hormagaunt Purple (dark greyish-purple), Knarloc Green (dark greyish-green), Necron Abyss (reminiscent of dark blue-green), and Tausept Ochre (red-tinged lighter brown).
