Take this from 2012 for example: http://www.coolminiornot.com/300409 (3516 votes, 452 registered), compared to that not getting 50 votes is a joke in itself.

daily sniper: it's not only you Bailey , happens to almost all new submissions. Like there is a bot giving 1-s to all images that are a week old or younger.

Well that explains why a few of my models just dropped in score.

Does anyone know how the "registered" votes tally? I know sometimes when i vote it doesn't always add to the registered vote count (and yes i am always logged in as a premium member).

They'll clean them up at the end of the contest and post them. Also I think registered votes sometimes take a while to show up. I have had people post in my WIP that they voted and then I won't see the vote for a few hours. The Illuminati is watching, but it's only for our own good ;0)

MAXXxxx, yeah, there are plenty that have worse problems with snipers. The last CMON contest, the dark age one, had a ton of underscored entries. And another friend, Iacton, seems to have someone who makes it his mission to snipe all his work. Often it's hard to tell if you're being sniped. This was just one instance where it was really clear as the same thing has been happening for 3 days. Soon he'll get bored and move on to trolling other people.

As for voting activity, the better posts tend to get more traffic and more votes. Getting your work in the 'New and Notable' section on the front page, up in the 'Top Last 7 Days', and in the 'Top Ten' will give your work a lot more exposure and thus a lot more votes. I just went on the gallery and looked at the most recent work rating 8-10. Going back 10 days, most are in the 25-30 vote range. The stuff in that same group that also made the 'Top Last 7 Days' or was part of the CMON contest have mostly 70+ votes. Looking at figures in the 6-8 range, I only see one during the last 11 days that hit 50 votes and it was part of the contest. The rest mostly hover around 20-30 votes. The Lady Ayana piece is phenomenal and was one of the top ten from 2012, so it's hardly a typical case.

I was curious so I looked at pieces in the 6-8 range from 2012. Most had roughly 50-60 votes. Same for 2013. But for 2014 they're around 40 votes. I just picked a random page in the gallery, looking only at scores 6-8 and all but one was under the 50 vote threshold. It would be great it the general activity level/amount of voting went up. But I don't know how you make that happen. And, until it does, people who aren't in that top group will have a hard time getting their newest work to count towards their overall score/ranking.

Something must have happened in 2014 to make people stop voting so much. I joined in April, 2013 and uploaded 12 images that year, only 2 failed to reach 50 votes and they're both sitting at 49. I've uploaded 18 images since Jan, 2014 and only 4 have 50+ votes. One is part of the current contest and the other 3 were part of a thread I made asking to get them to 50+ votes.

Getting into New and Notable also gets you sniped more, that happened to me. A couple even left comments. Some people just see it as their mission to vote down anything they think is overrated. Well, I often up the score by one or two if I feel that something is underrated, not sure if I can really say that is any better. At least it is friendlier.

Yeah my first post barely got 50 votes and my second post got about half that and I thought it was much better than my first, so I figured if its going to get butt loads of views and only a couple of votes whats the point lol

Yup, four new votes this morning and they're all ones. Once it's out of the top last 7 days I imagine they'll move on.

Oistene, I do the same. But helping out an underrated piece is supporting someone rather than sniping and trying to tear them down, so I think that's a pretty big difference! Often I feel a piece may deserve something between an 8 and a 9 or a 9 and a 10. If I feel it's underrated I'm going to always pick the higher one in that case. The gallery will always have its issues. That's why I much prefer the forum. 99.9% of the people on the forum are really nice and when you get criticism it's almost always helpful.

Conversely, though, I hate rallying for votes because I feel like in asking people for votes it's almost pressuring them to vote and vote well. Still, this has traditionally helped me reach 50.

Rrrgh. Frustrating. This community is generally so friendly, snipers bewilder me. At least "Officer of the Guide" seems to be doing rightfully well.

im with you on the vote pressure, I think I have 5 inside an annoying 5 votes to hit 50 and a couple more just outside. I've been asking but getting very slow progress.
the 50 almost seems like it's too far to hit on a regular basis for me and it seems others share that.
people seem to want to vote for the best which is great but the rest like me battle away to almost no avail.

Her you reported this to the site admin ? I suppose it could be a gremlin in the machine that's throwing in a low score for some reason. Hence that is why it keeps happening.

What contest is everyone voting on that everyone is getting sniped? Also my thought is the judges should remove all 1 through 3 votes on obviously well painted minis before final judgement.

p&p is the more fair venue of the voting with the galkeries...cannot tell you how many time this has happened to me and me being on the honor society throughout high school and college and the math team I'm no dummy when it comes to the aRithmetic means !! It's called the shooting gallery I think Tenball coined the phrase...he even asked public ally once hey "can we not make the new and notable"...so I know david that your another brilliant mate being an engineer I'm sure you very well with numbers .:"almost as good as I am" but do not waiver,do not worry the knight won first place at crystal brush and needs no further validation.....the mass is ended go in piece...!!!!

CMON already deals with the problem. Each night they factor out the 1's. I've just been watching the same person come back each morning to snipe it again. Snipers happen, I'm just struck by this one's vendetta against this one piece. I've probably been paying more attention because I haven't had time this week to do any actual painting. Hopefully after next week I will finally get back to my work station and put some paint onto the Scale75 steampunk lady.

Digganob, no contest, just a regular piece in the gallery. There is a current contest at CMON, but I haven't noticed any sniping issues there. That last one, the Dark Age one, seemed to have a lot more problem with low voting.
