Exactly. That's how the voting is supposed to work. If a piece is scoring a 9 and you think it should be an 8, then vote 8. Don't vote a bunch of 1's until the score actually is an 8. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion, but voting 1 just because you don't agree with the score means that you think your opinion matters more than everyone else who has voted on the piece. I've seen a few instances where someone is clearly messing with the system to boost their score. Something was just submitted and already has 800 votes and is scored way above where it would normally be. In which case, I can at least understand wanting to fight cheating with cheating. But if a piece has 30 votes, 40 votes, etc, those are legitimate votes. Just give it what you think it really should be and let everyone else have their own opinions as well.
To be honest, there are times I think a sniper could actually have a positive impact on your score. If they lower your score enough, people might vote higher than normal because they think the score is too low. Then, when the ones get removed, the score pops up higher than it originally was.
In the end, it's the price you pay for sharing your work on the internet. If you get into the new and notable section or top last 7 days, your work is going to be seen by more people (which is good), but it's also that much more likely to get noticed by a sniper. Thankfully, I really don't think there are that many of them. Compared to other sites and other hobbies, the vast majority of figure painters seem really nice, helpful, and friendly. CMON does a good job of factoring out their votes. So, you've just got to roll your eyes when it happens and wait for them to get bored and move on.
