guess there is WAMP but well, i guess i would attract about the same amount of traffic having the images on my local computer. need something more easy accessible than that. ive seen a few painters just do instagam now, that might be an option (?)

Unfortunately I still don't have any of my own work to show. I haven't done that much painting recently. But I still wanted to hop on and share some info about a new KS. Nocturna Models (who do some really great figures) have just started a KS called "The Quest: Dragon, Dwarves, Elves, Fantasy Miniatures." It just went live yesterday I believe and it's already 2/3rds of the way to meeting the funding goal. They're releasing a number of figures in 70mm and 35mm sizes along with one rather large (~1 ft tall) dragon model.

Right now it's just two regular models, a dark elf and a dwarf. But, based on my reading of the kickstarter, there will most likely be more to choose from by the end of the campaign. I rather like the dwarf and I'm curious to see what else they've got in store (I like the dragon a lot too, but it's a bit out of my price range). They've got photos of the resin versions for the 70mm figures and the dragon (always nice to see the actual products!). They said they may have to make some alterations for the 35mm versions, some of the smaller fragile parts would need to be adapted for the smaller scale.

Check out the photos below. I think this one is definitely worth keeping an eye on.

Yeah, I enjoy being a bad influence.

Seriously though, even though I do a lot of historical pieces, I love fantasy miniatures. But after working on larger scales like 54mm, 75mm, and 90mm, I've learned that I just don't enjoy painting 28mm figures as much. So I'm always happy to see companies releasing more fantasy figures in those larger scales. It's also nice that they're doing 35mm versions for people who'd prefer to work on the gaming scale stuff.

By the way, they've added another human character to the project and teased two more. Looking forward to see what those two might be...

In other news, I'm doing a short workshop tonight on painting faces using Google Hangouts. There's a group on facebook that's been organizing these hobby hangouts. If you're on facebook and not part of the group, I'd recommend checking it out and joining. They do a lot of general hobby painting hangouts, but also have people who specialize in sculpting and other special interests that will lead ones from time to time. I'll be running mine tonight starting at 6 pm PST. The actual demo should begin around 6:30 and run for about an hour. After that, I'll just stick around for a while, paint, and answer any questions people might have. The link for the hangout will be posted over on the facebook page and I'll try to remember to post it here too in case people are interested. I believe only 10 people can join, so it may fill up. If so, don't worry, I'm sure I'll do more!

I was checking that ks out last night, looks really cool but I'm not a fan of the sorceress, she looks too static to me compared to the nice dynamic human and dwarf, it's not that she's badly sculpted but she looks less interesting to paint than the other 2

That hang out sounds really cool but unfortunately the timing doesn't work for me. Is there any chance that it'll be recorded and made available later?

Sicks, I agree. I wish her lower body was posed a bit better to create a more dynamic sculpt. Right now I've only pledged for a single figure (probably going to get the dwarf), but I'm curious to see what else shows up. I could see myself getting two or three.

YetiSA, one of the people involved in the hobby hangout group (Kat) is looking into how to record it. So that's definitely a possibility. If so, I'll be sure to post the link to the recording here.

I would love to join and check it out Bailey. Could you give me a little more info on what I would have to do to get to it?

Basically you just need to be able to join a google hangout. If you already have a gmail or a google+ account, I'm pretty sure you're all set. If not, you might want to search "google hangout" and see if you need to create an account. Once I have the hangout up and running (roughly 6 pm PST), I will post a link to the facebook group and then again as a comment on this WIP thread. Follow that link and you should be able to join.

I've also received a couple of requests to record the hangout, so I'm going to try to set it up as a google "hangout on air." That should record the event and upload it to youtube. Assuming it works, I'll also post a link for anyone who couldn't make it but still wants to watch.

Id love to watch but I think it's at 1am here so hopefully you can get it recorded :) I'm gonna pass on the nocturna's ks mainly because I have a ton of stuff coming already but also because I've heard hasslefree will be doing a ks soon, there's not much info about it yet but I generally love their minis so there's not much chance I won't like it :p

Same here, would love to be able to see how you approach faces but, being Europe based, most of the American times will probably be hard for me to join :)

Very interesting KS there, I have never painted any model larger than 28mm scale but looking around in these forums, my interest is rapidly growing thanks to people such as yourself posting things like that!!

Thanks, Corax. I really enjoy the larger scales, you have more room to work and bring out the details. Honestly, I don't think painting a 54mm or even a 75mm is all that different from doing a 28mm. I use the same techniques, same brushes, same everything. There's just more of it, so expect to spend more time on the piece!

As for the hobby hangout/workshop, I think I've got it all set up. You should be able to find the video here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtCL3kKxNe0
Right now it's just counting down. This will also live stream the hangout, so if you can't get in or don't feel like taking part, you can watch it live or at a later time.

I believe you should be able to join the hangout using this link once it's started:

I could be wrong and will post an updated link to this thread if necessary. Just a quick reminder, if you do join, don't forget the hangout is being recorded and will be available for public viewing. Not that we need to keep the conversation G-rated or anything. But it doesn't hurt to remember that other people may end up listening to the conversation!

Awesome stuff Bailey03, looking forward to waking up and going to take a look ;)

I'd been digging through your thread and picked up a couple tips I tried on my latest models, and still need tons of improvement!!

Can't wait to watch the recording, Bailey. I had to go to a birthday party last night (dressed like a pirate in a definitely non-pirate-themed bar) and was not able to watch live. That's really cool that you did that.

thank you so much for making the recording available Bailey. it's really helpful for those of us who live in different timezones and have very bad internet connections
