No problem. The hangout recorded and the video is up on Youtube. If you check it out, be aware the tutorial part doesn't start until about 30 minutes in (up until then it was just a regular hangout). Because I recorded it through the Google Hangout, the video resolution isn't great and the audio is a bit iffy. You can still see and hear what's going on, it's just not as good as I would have liked! I hope to do another one, but record it directly from my own computer. That should give a much better resolution and help with the audio too. Not sure when I'll have time, but I'll definitely let everyone here know when it's done!

In other news, I've made some progress on the Hussar. I've been working on his headgear. I wanted to do some design work on his uniform, add more lace details. I decided to use metallic paints (it's gold lace), which ended up being way more of a pain than I anticipated. I had a hell of a time getting real fine lines with the metallics. I ended up having to go a bit thicker with the lines than I wanted, but finally got something I was happy with. There will be more of these details on his coat and pants, but I think I'm finally getting the hang of it, so those should go faster (I hope!).

And he's a little better view of the design work

I'm also going to be starting on this figure from Milosh Miniatures (yes, Milosh from CMON). He's been commissioning some sculpts and turning them into kits. This one is 54mm (though he's got an 80mm version too). If you're interested in seeing more or ordering one, check out his facebook page. I'm helping a friend out with some private coaching, so this is the piece we'll be working on. Lot's of skin to paint, so it should be a good project for the class.

I applaud you for using TMM on the hat and getting it to work. After painting the English Hussar last year I gave up doing TMM on the little fiddly pieces. And after watching Ben Komets paint large sections in TMM and tiny sections in NMM I feel justified doing the same thing.

Just finished working my way through your tutorial. Really fantastic stuff, I wish I'd seen that months ago. Thanks again for putting this out there, looking forward to your next one.

That angel looks like a really nice figure to paint, I can't wait to see how you get on with her, that horseman looks fabulous too, I can't offer any constructive criticism for it unfortunately but it looks stunning so far

Thanks, MAXXxxx. Great review!

Well, I haven't had much time to do much posting on CMON (in this thread or really anywhere else on the site!). I have been doing some painting recently, it's just that the majority of it hasn't been on figures! My wife and I are getting ready to welcome a new addition to the family in about a month. We've been hard at work getting our place prepared and I decided to add some personal touches to the baby's room. We're doing a fairy tale/Disney theme, so with the help of some painters tape (and a bit of freehand too), here's what I came up with...

Back to minis, I've decided to take a break from the hussar. I can tell that's going to be a long slow project, so I want to switch things up so I don't get burned out on it. I was looking for a quick project, so I decided to do Pegaso's Empress's Dragoons Officer. It's a 54mm figure on foot, so not a huge project. And I've already done a Dragoon on campaign, so I've more or less already got my paint mixes figured out. What I'm trying to do differently with this piece is put into practice one of my take aways from Crystal Brush. Namely, working on the figure and the base simultaneously. Since I typically leave my bases until the end, they can become a bit rushed. I'm hoping this approach will make me give each part the attention it deserves and create a more cohesive final result. Anyway, to make this happen the first step was building the base before I started to paint the figure. Here's what I've come up with. The gate is from ScaleLink (with some minor edits so it fit the column), the column was built from Juweela bricks, and the plaque on the column is a nameplate from PK-PRO. The ground is just a modeling putty and then sand for texture.

The general idea is this guy is in his dress uniform, so I didn't want to put him in the field. I decided to place him at the front gate of some Chateau. I'd seen the gate at ScaleLink a while ago and really wanted to use it with a figure. This seemed like a great opportunity.

I wish my room had been like that when I was younger! I think something is missing from the top of the column, don't most château gates have something ornamental on top of them like a lion or vase or something?

Nice job on the fairy tale castle. I think you should do some nurgle rot, though, to really take it over the top.
Congratulations on the imminent arrival of the 1/15 scale human.
