Congrats on the new addition and the castle is excellent. As the others have said; sleep and get that mini painted asap as you will be challenged for time to sleep and paint pretty soon. ;)

So yeah. You can come down and paint my rooms too. Im probably closest to disneyworld out of everyone too :p
? Wouldn't a fairy castle clash with your current ork decorating theme? Lol :)

Congratulations on the little one!! I actually remember having MORE hobby time those first few months because the wife and baby spent so much time napping, but in the long run it's definitely a huge change. Worth every minute though.

Good start on the dragoon. Can't wait to watch you work your magic on him.

Thanks, everyone! We are super excited for our new addition to arrive!

In other news, I'm organizing a hobby hangout tonight at 6:30 PDT. This isn't a class like the last time, it's just going to be people hanging out and painting. But, if there's interest, I offered to do some short demos. Maybe something on freehand. We'll see. This is through the hobby hangout group on facebook, but I'll post the link here as well in case any of you want to join in. I just got my Hailey Smith: Cat Suit figure from Wonderlands Project and I'm planning to work on her during the hangout.

Thanks, Kretcher and Khonner for joining me on the hangout. Nice chatting with both of you!

Here's the progress I've made on Hailey so far. For those not familiar with this one, she's a 54mm figure from Wonderlands Project. She was up for pre-order a while ago. Ended up being a month or two late, but she's finally here. Overall a very nice sculpt and cast. A well done feminine face (not always a guarantee when it comes to female figures) and some really nice details like the hair.

I've started with the skin. I've done her face and upper body. The legs/rear end are halfway done. The front still needs to get a series of glazes, but I don't want to do that until I've had a chance to paint her hair and clothing.

No plans to enter this figure into any competitions, just planning to have fun painting her. It's good practice doing female skin (softening the shading on secondary features). I'm tempted to do a sheer effect on her stockings. I've never tried painting sheer before, so it'd be a chance for me to learn.

Awwwwwggghh I want a naked cat chick ...:/ lol looks great so far David....really feminine with the secondary surfaces being softened from what you normally do on your male mini subjects...it is great practice and though your not entering or planing to it will be a very highly standardized painted miniature...ill be checking in .;)with no advise at all.;););)

Ha, I didn't know you were painting her too, Sicks. Looks like we've got a cat fight! MAXXxxx, I know you got a copy too. When you finish up your bust, are you planning to join in too?

Skel, yeah, this mini can be a love it or hate it sculpt. For me, it's a nice change from what I normally work on.

10, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if Milosh has one already.

yes and no. I'd like to join, but first I'd want to paint a ve-11 model I have. After that it's painting-jam time, where I might take another Bust I want painted... so no idea when I'll even start painting it.

Yea she's in my wip entering the final stages whereby I try to fix mistakes and make more mistakes for about 5 hours worth of painting until Im fairly happy lol clearly the only way to settle this is pistols at dawn! I might have more of a chance then :p I considered the sheer effect too except I was going to do the whole outfit like it but decided against it, it looked odd with all the wrinkles on the back, I think you should definitely give it a go on the legs and maybe arms seeing as it'll be something new for you

That's a little different. Are you going to do nylon's and sheer effect? Should be a breeze compared to the freehand on the samurai.

Yeah, I'm hoping to do a sheer effect with the stockings... but we'll see if I actually go through with it or not.

So these are some crappy cellphone photos, but they still get the point across. I was talking with Jason Martin about how I approach hair. It's something I still struggle with, but I'm hopeful the hair on this figure will end up looking good. Here I'm attempting to paint a high sheen style of hair, basically approaching hair closer to NMM than the regular matte portions of the figure. This is my first pass at the hair. What I've done is sketch on the main colors to give me an idea of where I want the highlights to fall. No blending, just a rough version. Next I plan on doing a second pass for highlight placement. I'll be looking at the figure from different angles and seeing what works and what doesn't. Maybe some need to be smaller, others bigger, and perhaps some are in the wrong spot. Once I think I've got that correct, I'll do a third pass where I will actually blend the colors together and get a (mostly) smooth finish.

Use some Pantene adds or some manga drawings of hair for ref! It's very nice start though and will be easy to define with glazes :)

I feel like maybe she needs to be warmed up a tad. Maybe a little bit of the old Chestnut Brown in the hair as a glaze? Maybe in the skin?
