Ha, Sicks, most likely true. A couple years ago I was looking for arabic phrases to go on a crusader's captured banner. Probably wound up on some watch list or other due to those searches.

On another topic, my kit from the long overdue creature caster kickstarter arrived yesterday. I posted this over on another thread, but thought I'd share the pictures here too for the people who haven't been following that project closely. There's been a lot of mixed reviews about the kits that have come out. My general feelings are that the kits aren't as terrible as some of the reviews make them out to be, but they definitely aren't great either. The KS promised "Quality printing and casting is absolutely essential. I have the experience, knowledge and passion to make Creature Caster the Cadillac of model kits."
Let's see how that actually stacks up...
Here's one of the wings from the Plague Angel with a close up on the feather details. Definitely not crisp details. On the KS he wrote "The surface detail is carefully designed to look great when painted by a beginner, after a simple basecoat, ink and drybrush." Details on the actual cast are no where near good enough that an ink and drybrush would bring out any of those fine details. I imagine I could go in there and carefully paint it to look good, but that's by working against the cast and not with it.
Here's a look at the shoulder. Clearly he created some cool skull shapes there, but the result of the cast is just a bunch of blurry looking blobs. One might think the camera was just incredibly out of focus. Nope, that's exactly what's there.
As for mold lines, here's one of the worst on my kit. Others aren't as bad, but there will be some annoying clean up to do.
It's not all bad. The face and body look decent and there's still enough detail there to work with. Is it worth the $65 US I paid for the early bird pledge? Eh, probably not. Is it worth all the time we waited? Definitely not. And is it worth the $84 US retail price? Not to me.
I like the concept and design of the figure. The kit is passable enough I'm not going to chuck it in the trash and, because I like the concept, I will most likely try to paint it. But had I seen this in person at a store, there's no way I would have bought it at retail. Maybe half price on the sale rack, then I'd have bought it on impulse.

Ah, that's a shame. I never got a chance to look at that kickstarter. It might be a nice little practice piece at least (not that you need it).
I keep looking at the 'actual 3D print' text at the bottom of the first picture, it doesn't apply to the thing on the left surely? That looks very CGI.
I'm patiently waiting on an Infamy kickstarter model to turn up, I'll pray it's better quality.

Yeah, the Infamy stuff should be fine. They've released other figures and I never heard any complaints about the quality.
As for Creature Caster, I believe the image is the 3-D print (though I could be wrong). I'm sure they have access to high quality 3-D printers. It's just making a mold from that and mass producing the kits where they have completely fallen flat.

I think foxtail is right there, it looks like as a 3d model, not a 3d print.
Also based on how the KS progressed, the HQ printers are also unlikely. Maybe (hopefully) they used a service that does HQ printing, but that'd cost some $.
As for the model: I'd try to have that blurry arm piece replaced. I may worth 1 email to them.

The head and torso don't look too bad on the details, a nasty mood line and gap to fill on the neck but workable, that arm though.... it looks like generic pustulous blobs on the shoulders, may E if I squint a bit or cover my glasses in Vaseline the skull shapes might be clearer, shame really as it looks like it could have been a great mini

It's a good thing I had no money when this kickstarter happened, I would be really upset right now.
The base you made for the angel looks really nice, and yeah my search history probably sets off a lot of alarms thanks to this hobby.

Thanks. I did ask because i tried the scale painting on a shield of my berserker.
I found it surprisingly hard to paint something that looks sloppy but in scale.
About the kickstarter i ranted enough in the other thread ^^
Btw i will use your "painting white" guide soon for an mini and i will blame you for 100% of mistakes that i will make :=)

Foxtail, don't worry. I got the Goblin Chieftain (Infamy One Shot #1) via Kickstarter, and it is simply the most crisp and detailed 28mm miniature I ever got me. Unbelievable small spikes and pieces everywhere, super delicate. Not easy to paint and a beginner might struggle with assembly but a real pleasure to work on. High quality casting with no problematic areas and very slight mouldlines. Those where strategically placed so they were easy to get rid off in most places. I'm glad I just got one figure from the Kickstarter. I was tempted to pick up a couple, but definitely relieved I didn't spend any more money than I did.
In other news, I think the Fallen Angel figure is finally finished!!!! Okay, I could probably spend another month tweaking the wings, adding glazes, etc. But sometimes you've just got to move on.
The project is up over at P&P. Tried to put it into the CMON gallery but got a strange error on the upload. Will try again in a little bit to see if the issue is resolved.

Haven't had any painting time this week, but hopefully I'll get some this weekend. We've got the show for our local modeling club, SCAHMS, coming up in a little less than 2 months. I've started a bunch of projects since last year's show, but the only thing I've finished is the Fallen Angel piece and it's off in the hands of a collector. So I'm going to try and finish up a couple pieces so I actually have something to bring to the show! If all goes well, I'll show some progress on something next week.
In other news, I wanted to share two new kickstarters that will hopefully go much better than the Creature Caster one. The first is a series of busts and a 75mm figure based on Infinity. This is being done by David Anta and Angel Giraldez. The production will be handled by Big Child Creatives (the people behind the Black Sailors figures), so I'm confident the end results will be very nice. Given the people behind this one, I'd say this kickstarter is a pretty safe bet to deliver some very nice figures. I haven't backed yet, but the Ajax figure they're about to unlock could be tempting. I'm definitely curious to see the digital sculpt they come up with for him.

The second kickstarter is from Modelland, I guess a part of Aradia miniatures. It's taking the 75mm monk figure they did and producing a number of pieces around that, so Asian inspired fantasy figures in 75mm. It's a neat concept, though I like some of the sculpts more than others. They've got teasers for future unlocks that look interesting. We'll see if they come up during the project. I'm not quite clear what role Aradia is playing in this. That company isn't mentioned on the KS page, but Modelland is on Aradia's company page. It looks like they are teaming up with Terrible Kids Stuff (who do great work) for printing of the figures. I've got a few more questions about this one than the Infinity project, but it still sounds like a reasonably safe bet. I haven't pledged for anything yet, but I'm tempted and will also be keeping an eye on it to see how the campaign progresses.
