Baratheon expansions

Great analysis. I do hope that the data they will collect this year will keep track of the loyalty players are using. I foresee that the results for Renly will be different than with stannis.

And it's not that i want to whine, i reserve that for Bolton Flayed Men, but when building Stannis armies, i am often left scratching head for a cohesive battle plan. Perhaps we're just missing R'hllor units, but when trying to combine units, attachments and the tactic deck...so far i see the R'hllor stuff as more of a liability than an asset.

Exactly. His army is confused, and thus, so are we. I was hoping for a Stannis non-Commander attachment for 2 points similar to his original Commander version but maybe watered down a bit. That way we could run him with a different commander and get rid of his overlapping trigger and destroyed unit cards. It still could be an option in the box, but if not, idk how I feel about running a list without him. Like, it just feels so wrong. Did they really think Stannis fans would want to run a Stannis army without Stannis?

If i remember correctly, they did state that R'hllor will get a great ranged unit. That could make the "when this unit is destroyed" on the Faithfuls token effect more usable by then. I expect flaming arrows with vicious. It doesn't remove the huge gap in ease of use between Renly and Stannis.

Yea! That’s what Shinall said in a podcast way back. I thought that’s what we were getting given the lack of ranged options. I was hoping for guys with hand cannons (“masters of salt and smoke” - super R’llhory lol) but yea, something ranged. In which case you what you’re suggesting would be on point. It says free attack within LR, not melee attack. So giving some vicious ranged unit a free attack makes perfect sense. Also consider that said unit could shoot into a combat involving the Faithful and trigger a panic test for them which they would likely pass and get another faith token. It almost synergizes so well that it’s hard to see that that wasn’t the intention...

A R'hllor ranged unit with flaming arrows would be thematic, but would that rule out a generic Baratheon ranged unit for the near future? Seems odd to leave half of the faction without one.

I’ve heard tell they are getting 4 unique units each. Sounds like a lot to me, but with what we are pretty sure Stannis is already getting - R’hllor Faithful, Kings Men, Queens Men - it doesn’t seem that hard to believe that Renly will get at least 3 as well. We only know of Rose Knights atm. But even if there are only 3 each, one could easily be a ranged unit. I think I would prefer they each get their own. At this point after starter set units and cavalry, I see no reason for new units to be loyalty-neutral other than to save them time/money in design and production.
