Hey, I\'ve posted pictures of this base in various stages of completion all over the forums asking for advice.

It\'s basically a duel between the battlesuit and three necrons. In the painting and conversions section of the forums I posted a question about putting LEDs in clear resin, Thats what I\'m doing with the necron coming out of the pipe. theres a hole drilled at the back of the pipe that leads to an opening in the bottom of the base where I can put a battery.

Here are my questions:
What kinds of extra decorations do you think I should put on the base? (especially in the underwater part)
When I put the resin in,will it be ok that it will cover the wires running down the pipe to the battery? If not, how sould I stop it from getting in the pipe? (another issue here might be it not getting full coverage around the necron)

Oh and I was thinking of using the 1.5 mm LEDs from this site:

Heres the story. I was primering the necron, and for some reason my mom thought it was trash... I have no idea why. (I suppose there were some crumpled paper towels near it) So she throws it away, I don\'t find out until the next day and I have to wade through half the trashcan (most of which happened to be rotten food) to find it. Luckily I did! I shall now have to rebuild it and continue the primering later.

Make sure to throw something important of hers in the trash or stopped up toilet and make her fish it out. Teach her to keep her hands off stuff that isn\'t hers.

I would suggest sealing off the areas leading to electrical things before filling with resin.

The best way \"I have heard to seal things and prevent odd air bubbles would be to use some clear epoxy so that you can get a good seal and protect the wires a bit from the resin heating up and such as it cures.

I would suggest a test piece with something before you waste time on the big one to figure out how to secure your LED and power supply form the resin correctly. Cause once you pour int he resin, you either have it right, or have lost everything you worked on. :eek:

How exactly is the inside of the pipe to be wired, and where does the battery go?

I would personally have preferred the pipes a bit further up and less resin water so it looks like the pipes are trickling water out to reservoir etc. The have the necron half climbing out so it is not fully submerged and swimming.

As for the LED\'s i dont know much about the technical implications of including them in the piece but from a visual point of view i would have them as far back in the pipe as possible and more towards the bottom of the pipe so its a soft light that shadows the necron.

Good luck with it and i will keep an eye on it :D

So the battery goes up in the small hole? AA battery or watch battery?

You should be able to stick wires through the hole and fill it in with epoxy to seal them.

I would also seal the wires themselves as depending on the resin, foreign materials may cause bubbling to occur. But you may want the bubbles to look like air coming from the Necrons? ???

You may even be able to seal the pipe up itself and conserve your resin since you won\'t be able to see in the pipe wen the water level is reached with the resin.

Again test out the sealing method first and the resin on something spare so you don\'t waste all your hard work, and see which method you like best to use on the project.

It is a tricky bit of pipe with the LED inside the Necron and all.

Probably a good idea. Should be put on after the resin water anyway, so you don\'t have it in the way trying to pour the resin. Hope it doesn\'t stall you on the whole thing.

Hmmm well I have managed to do some highlighting and shading of the red without the blood red but you cant tell in the pictures I took. I suppose I\'ll wait till I make some more progress before I post more pics. So again, what kinds of decorations should I put on the base?

Decorations for where? Above or below the water line?

Maybe a grate for the pipes below the water line. Broken of course for the one with the Necron leaving it.

Some sort of coral growing on the bottom?

Muscles or other mollusks on the side of the wall/cliff/whatever above the pipes.

Where exactly is this happening at to get a better idea of what sort of terrain features would help fill in based on the location?

Its supposed to be like a city sewer. Thats why I was confused about what kind of animal or plant life might live there.
So I\'m mostly saying for below the water line cause it looks a bit empty now

you could try putting some weird alien lifeform living underwater and some fungus with a glowing look here and there.

Rats. Plenty of rats. Maybe a gator. Some mold of fungus on the walls about the water line.

So grime on the bottom and rising up the edge to show that the sewer has some build up in it.

I did say grime. Even though it is poo-water, you don\'t want a faux Baby Ruth bar floating in it...or maybe you do?

You might also want some buildup or sediment in the pipes to show that not everyone thing going through was going out.

Sewers are kind of nasty, and the list of things I have seen go into a waste water treatment plant are probably not mentionable, but some really odd ones include prophylactics and hypodermic needles. But since their are field medics in 40k, and IG do have needles for the command squads, maybe they aren\'t too far fetched to see in your sewers?

Just think of what people might flush or go down the storm drain (bullet casings, drinking cups, shoes, etc), and I think a goldfish skeleton would be hilarious!

I\'m starting to think that this will look better if the water only comes halfway up and the necron is already half out of it. This however means that the LED doesnt make sense anymore as the necron will now be in the same environment as the other necrons and they dont have LEDs. (and I\'m not putting any in) But I still want to use some LEDs because it\'ll be cool. It doesnt make sense for them to just be in the water. Any sugestions of where the light could be eminating from? (doesnt have to be in the water)

Oh and I slimed on some of this stuff to dirty it up:

Mixture of calthan brown, white glue and sand. I\'ll wait for it to dry before I take pictures of it on the base.

Oh and I would like some metal grating for the pipes. I searched google for something but I couldn\'t find anything. Can anyone direct me to a source?

how about putting the lights in the pipes to represent necrons coming out of the pipe and the green light is there eyes / equipment glowing etc

I\'m also going to be getting some skaven rats from my friend when he gets back from Florida to put on the base.

I also need some of the metal grate covering stuff like in the GW urban basing kit I cant find any except in that. Can anyone direct me to a source?
Also, for battle damage on the battlesuit, I know nothing about tau fluff. Whats the armor made of? In other words should chipping show, metal? Bone? Ceramic?

Looks like you puked on the base lol It looks very gross!
As far as I understand Eldar armour is made from bone, Space Marine armour is made from a mixture of metal and ceramics (I think), but Tau armour, I don´t have a clue!

Not to many Tau with battle damaged on them! Looks like fildunn painted rust and some chips on his, seems like he just used a brown color but I can´t be sure. PM him and he might tell you how he did it :)

So most of the painters around here seem to be doing Tau battle damaged in browns and blacks :)
