A nice start, and very neat! I think the flesh could do with more highlights to give the muscles definition and the mini a bit more depth.

thanks dave

so when i high light I need to pick out the tops of his mucsles more with a lighter shade of his skin color right?.. I ask because I like the color he is & I dont want to get to far from that color. Ive highlighted him twice now.. i started out with a Terracotta base then flesh wash . next i mixed Terracotta & Vomit Brown then mixed in a bit of Desert Yellow to that..

am I not adding enough of the lighter colors to make the hight lights show? or am i getting to much of the hight light colors on & covering my base to much?

again thanks for any input

There are basically two ways you can go with highlighting:

- lots of subtle steps gradually lightening the colour and using thinned paint for smoothness
- more contrasting colours and fewer layers.

The first will look good when done well and provide a very smooth transition which will not always come across in photos. The second is good for photos as the contrast shows up stronger but doesn\'t look as smooth in real life.

It\'s really a question of finding out what works best for you and the effect you\'re after. If you want to score high on CMON, take the highlights up an extra notch more than you think necessary.

Personally, I love teracotta as a base colour and it\'s a great choice for this mini. Maybe you could focus on getting the fur to contrast a bit more with the body, then work on the axe to give the metal some depth.

And if you can get some better pics, that would help a lot. These are a bit too out of focus. If your macro is working for you maybe try taking the photo from further away and cropping it.

Keep us posted

thanks Billy.. thats helps alot..
Sences im happy with the skin Im going to move on to other parts.
First Ill do the hair & fur patchs.. I started them out black then drys brushed them white after that I dry brushed them again with teracotta + blood red. But i wondering is i should go back to the black patches..
next Ill do the axe.. its based with mith silver + codex gray..I want it to look like metal but not real shiney.. any pointers here would be great..

thanks again for the help guys

For the axe, there\'s a couple of methods that you could choose depending on the look you\'re after. You could layer up starting with a darker base (Boltgun with a little black, layering up through boltgun, chainmail to mithril for extreme highlights) and wash with thinned black/brown inks.

Or you could basecoat it black and drybrush the metallics on for a darker/rougher appearance then wash it.

Alternatively, Jakob Nielsen\'s got some great tutorials on his website that I was looking at yesterday - click here - whichmight help too.

Good luck
