Believe there were moon landings?

Having said that, the one thing I have never seen any of the \"We\'ve never been to the moon/It was all staged\" loons discuss or even look at are the 200+ pounds of Lunar Rock and Soil that were brought back by the Apollo program.
Yes, absolute proof right there (IF they bother to look at it). 841lb by the way.

I don\'t believe any of the other famous conspiracy theories (JFK, 911 etc etc), but I was convinced by the well known documentary about Apollo being a fake.
The one by Fox?

I have seen some stuff refuting this, but I didn\'t find it nearly as convincing (which is not the same as actual research, of course).
Which points are convincing for you?

Shadows at different angles? Crosshairs disappearing behind objects in the photos? No stars in the photos? White objects clearly visible in deep shadow? The hills appearing to be unchanged in different photos?

Trouble is Einion that you\'ve asked \"Believe there were moon landings?\"

But your mistake is that you didn\'t ask by Whom.

Serious answer? One reason is because they\'re dry. Very very dry.

As Steelcult says, really the burden of proof is on the doubters, not the other way around.

I can\'t remember all the exact points, but there were several that really made me think. The unreal appearance of the landing unit descending sticks out. No dust whatsoever.

I didn\'t know it was made by Fox! (it was aired on channel 5 in the UK iirc, which isn\'t generally known for high quality broadcasting).

All this being said, I am quite sure we did land on the moon and we do in fact have moon rocks.
Then why didn\'t you say you were playing devil\'s advocate?

I tend to think of myself more as a \'shit disturber\' rather than someone playing devil\'s advocate. My way is more fun. :drunk:

In all seriousness though, I do think a certain level of skepticism is quite healthy and good for society. It\'s unfortunate (or is it inevitable) that most skeptics we see or hear from are cracked in the head, they often seem perfectly normal until they open their mouthes and start talking.

As for the \'true vacuum\' part, hopefully some day I\'ll get it. I know the theory but that is a far cry from \'getting it\' if you catch my meaning.

We landed there, enough said.

I heard a really disturbing bit about the lunar landing that was not widely publicized - NASA is still wrestling with how to provide effective radiation shielding for astronauts and spacecraft. What it boils down to is that if a solar flare had taken place while the astronauts were on the moon, they would have died of radiation exposure. I heard that secondhand, but I can try to find the source information if others are interested.

Yes. I do believe we landed on the moon.

I would go with the people who say yes, I mean this wasn\'t some cold war conspiracy to one up the Russians this had been one mans dream from before the war. And that point is why I can\'t see how any one can take pride in the moon landing, I mean Wernher Von Braun the father of the US space program was among the worst of the nazi war criminals.

For the rockets to be developed to put man on the moon cost over 20,000 lives at Mittelwerk the site of the v rocket development. Then instead of being punished for war crimes the Americans in operation overcast allowed Wernher and his team to carry on work in America for NASA.

I know i\'ve gone of point a lot but I think who cares if man landed on the moon to me the bigger point is why was a waffen-ss officer who used concentration camp slave labour not punished, answer because he could put the Americans on the moon faster than the Russians to me the moon landing will allways be clouded by that shame.

Yeah? Well wait until you realize how much medical data we got from the Nazi\'s experiments.

I thought that all that information was locked up and unused someplace because it was considered \'unclean\'.

Of course we were grabing up Nazi\'s, we had to get them before the Russias got them all. Like a twisted verison of Pokeman.

Sadly we can\'t change what has already been done (medical experiment line...) but wouldn\'t ignoring useful data be just as much of a crime as the way the data was gained in the first place?

Letting more people suffer because other people suffered just doesn\'t make sense either.

Awesome! lol I would make that my sig if I did that type of thing.

The problem with most conspiracy theorists is the \"faith\" nature of their arguments. Their theories have become like a radical religion to them. They can\'t be reasoned out of them, because any evidence to the contrary is generally claimed to be just more proof of the cover-up\'s pervasiveness (if not the questioner\'s personal complicity in it).

Sadly, for all their ruthlessness, the Nazi doctors were not good scientists. From what I understand, many of their sick experiments were not carried out with the kind of scientific rigor that would be expected for publication even at the time, and their usefulness is compromised as a result. This is not to say they were not scientists at all, for many of them were well-respected academics and doctors before the war - members of the educated elite, not just a bunch of sadistic brownshirts in lab coats.

Actually there is ejecta, just not much of it. Good explanation for this too - not much thrust (one sixth gravity remember, moving slowly at that point in the descent), plus it\'s spread over quite a wide area. Also, vacuum means the gasses from a rocket disperse really quickly compared to the way they\'re constrained by an atmosphere into a column; and there\'s no air to keep the dust afloat, so it settles very quickly - hence no dust cloud. You can see the same effect in the rooster-tails from the rover (which incidentally couldn\'t have been faked unless they made an entire studio a pressure vessel).

This is a great example of something where our layman\'s understanding of the way things \'should be\' just doesn\'t prepare us for the unusual conditions in lower gravity, vacuum etc. That\'s one reason conditions in space and within spacecraft are so seldom done correctly in movies.

I agree that the information of scientists from the war was usefull and wernher von braun was one of the greatest minds of any time but I think using there research is one thing but letting them carry on with goverment funding after the war is another. Like any war criminal they should have been prosecuted why should the be treated with more respect than a member of a death squad.

Back to the main point I can\'t understand why the US would go to all the trouble of faking a moon landing when they had all the equipment needed to do it for reall and it\'s not as if money was a problem. Anyway the space race is old news what interests me is whats beneath our oceans, I wish goverments would invest the cash into that research.

In a moment of insanity I was browsing the Prisonplanet forums the other night and a thought occured to me. \"Most of these conspiracy theorists are trading one state of brainwashing for another. If Alex Jones said the sky was green and the grass was orange they\'d believe it wholeheartedly and defend his proclamations to the hilt\".

You can go to any conspiracy forum on the net, post the most idiotic, pointless, insane theory you can think of, pad it out with some realistic sounding but equally absurd sources and filler to massage their assessment that \"teh .gov is out to get me!\" and they lap it up.

By the way, news on the grapevine. The CIA are putting mind control powder in the graphite of school childrens pencils in order to create a super army of labourers to harvest this years bumper blackberry crop which they synthesise into the combat drug BB72X, which helps soldiers tactically pick thier nose out in the field. I heard it from my friend who is high up in the agency who let it slip whilst we were out drinking one night. I could give you his name but \"they\" are monitoring all my internet traffic and they\'d come for both of us. With my SEAL/SAS/Spetznaz/Delta/Mossad black ops training I could probably kill enough of the goons they\'ll send to make my getaway, but I dont want to put any of you guys in that possition.

Edit: sweet baby Jesus. Link. 6 posts down lol

I think they happened, it doesn\'t seem impossible, and conspiracy nuts are interesting to listen to, but all in all, they never have much evidence to support their claims...
As for the burden of proof to be placed on the minority, I disagree... christians still have yet to prove the existence of their so-called \"god\" but say you have to have faith and believe in it... the same reasoning the conspiracy nuts use to support their claims of insanity. Actual evidence exists for the proof of the moon landing and space travel, it\'s quite fascinating, they have some stuff at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago here, and it\'s really cool...
But again, the burden needs to be placed on the ones making up the theory and argument, rather than just \"majority rules.\" If everyone told me McD\'s makes you healthy and to eat it 3 times everyday and have faith on it, well I\'d like to see some living proof of that but there wouldn\'t be, seeing as how it would kill you in a month or two... lol oh and some fair and balanced studies on the subject teehee
:D
