Yep, vallejo is one of the best brands, next to GW. If you have a vallejo dealer go for it, the Game colour line is exactly like GW\'s so switching back n\' forth would be easy. It also depends on your colour preferences. Model colour line has natural, darker, camo etc. colours, while Game colour is brighter.

Well, I LIKE the cheap-o paints for stuff like terrain or gigantic areas to paint.
GW has great paint, but lousy bottles (although it looks like they may have remedied that)
Vallejo is probably the favorite of most of the folks here, and I won\'t disagree. It is good stuff.
I say go with whichever (GW or Vallejo) is most available, buy just a few colors and see how you like it.

well yeh, it would be just plain silly to use up 100 pots of chaos black to paint a gaming board lol
I have to give kudos to GW paints too, they\'re great also, and work well with Vallejo. I\'m just surprised GW hasn\'t sued over the game color paints. I mean, \"scorpion green\" to \"scorpy green\" (is that right?) seems a little too close, expecialy when the color is exactly the same.

I dunno, I use different brands for different jobs. Because of the slight transparancy of most of the GW colours they\'re great for transparant layering jobbies, while Vallejo paints are great for blocking in large areas, because they cover really well.(I don\'t bother with the Game colour range much, since....well, I\'ve got a set of GW paints and what\'s the point in buying the same colour twice eh?) I also use the Foundry paint system and Coat d\'Arms, plus Cryla and Winsor and Newton artists acrylics(comes in a tube)
Vallejo hasn\'t actually breached any copyright laws, since(I think this was it, but I might be talking out of my backside) you cannot legally copyright english brandnames(or something like that) in Spain, France and a lot of other countries in Europe. plus the fact they\'re not ACTUALLY using GW\'s paintnames, so heho. I just find it a bit silly, because most of the colours in the Game Colour range are also in the model Colour range.... it\'s a cheap trick they\'re using, oh well.....

I use a mixture of Vallejo and GW. I prefer the Vallejo bottles but find the paint to be equally as good. The major problem with GW is that the paint dries up quicker because of the design of the bottles. I\'m hoping the flip tops will keep the paint liquid for longer (time will tell).
The major problem with vallejos is that you have to shake them more vigorously than GW to mix the paint up.
Does anyone know whether Vallejo white is less chalky looking than GW Skull white? I have yet to find a nice smooth white paint.

hard to tell what brand is the best ...
i use 3 or 4 brands - lukas, i-kore, GW, Valejo
all have their own problems, all have their own advantages.
I-kore for example has extremely transparent colours compared to the other 3, so they are quite good for layering and some of the best i´ve tested for wetblending. GW-paints are a bit more opaque then those from i-kore but a bit too pricy for my taste, but overall they are the best choice for beginners, since they seem the cause the smallest problems with different painting styles. Lukas paints are great, but the palette is quite limited for the deco colours, but light ochre is my tip for NMM-gold, haven´t found a better yet for this. And at least Valejo, they have tons of nice extra-colours like smoke or all their transparents or mediums. Actually i don´t like the normal colours because they gave me some headache and caused a lot of problems with my extreme-thinning-down-paints painting style (chalky finish, drying in unclean steps, tones of mixed colours changing in different levels depending on the amount of colour a to colour b while drying and so on ...
Which colour is the best depends on your own preferences and techniques so it is hard to say

Tammy, you are a lifesaver! I\'ve been struggling with white ever since I\'ve started painting! I\'ve tried different brands, different amounts of diluting, but nothing seemed to work. Hooray! I must buy some of that stuff soon, no longer will I be forced to stick to moody colors!

Just go to your LGS and purchase a cross section of paints. Use em and go from there. As you can see we all have opinions of what we like to use the best. YOu ultimatly have to chose what works for you
