bgcdazzler's first ever mini WIP (a confusion of cockups and learnings)

Glad you like him - bit of an experiment. I've a couple more characters to do.

In the meantime: quick session tonight as I actually need to do some work. But I managed to add a few more gubbins to the Orc. I'm having just seeing how much stuff I can stick on him!

thanks guys - I think a little break from it has actually helped in a way. Anyway I've roughed out more of the stuff, and added the left hand. Gah! Hands.

Looking great, Dazz. I'm definitely feeling the totemic knick-knacks on your shaman. Because orcs know that the teeth of the creature bestow the strength of the creature on the wearer!
Maybe you could see what it looks like if you add a few patches of fur overlaying what you've got already, if you know what I mean. That might help establish some volumes of the underlying figure despite the heavy cloak while also giving the paintbrush an easier time creating an interesting surface. I have in mind the way that Tre Manor does his fur on Red Box figures. If you need me to, I can post a picture of what I mean.
Whether you try that or not, your progress is impressive and your figure is turning out very nicely. Keep it up!

Good ideas Saint - I'm certainly not finished overloading him (though have to be careful: he's already lost an ear and a tooth). Tried to take him on a black background as some of the details are getting hard to make out. Some of the new bits include skulls, a warthog head (tusks still to add) on his head and blended into the fur, and a shrunken head on his necklace (still got to stitch the eyes and mouth shut though). I took off the shoulder but as it was getting in the way; bit stuck as to what to add there to be honest...

And I haven't forgotten our zealous friend: some more details added in to him here:

As many have said very nice freehand, on the orc is it a shrunken head on the necklace ? if so it looks too sunken into his chest. Liking all the the details and totems

Thanks everyone. Show off? Dude, this is like my third ever freehand. I know I've still got a long way to go...

I've roughly sketched out the back of the hat - it'll be much more plain. I'm sure smarter folk than me will point out if the Latin is wrong. :)

Not much updates the next couple of days, as I have a work trip/house packing to do. In the meantime, keep licking those brushes folks!

I'm back! Surrounded by boxes, eager to move this Friday... I may even get a hobby room out of it (still negotiating with missus and kids).

i did get a cheeky painting session in last night, so fixed the piggy Latin (the Internet insists the new words are correct), plus some brocade on the purple bits and sticking the tassels back on.

nearing the home stretch with him now, just need to do:

tassels
top/inner of hat
spittle
loads of blood all over him
plinth

so better hurry up and finish the Orc, or I'll have nothing left to paint...

He looks so good mate. I also love the WIP on the Orc. Couple of photos ago I was thinking 'what the hell are the weird blobs on his head for? This must be some sort of mistake!' And then the next photo it's a perfect little boars head!!!! How that happen?!?

Thanks guys. Darth: that's what's so satisfying about sculpting. I love when you've got a formless lump of something and then something slowly emerges out of it.

Bit it of a different thing:

I'm struggling because I'm literally surrounded by taped up boxes and most of my stuff is put away until the weekend. But I couldn't do nothing, so had a little go at something else. Digga: this might well become a werewolf...

this is is a real bodge together, but I wanted to go for a 28mm mini. First some wire - and it shows how little materials I have to hand - it's wire from a broken tumble dryer vent kit.

Next was green stuff. I hate green stuff. I have no idea how proper sculptors can work with it. However I've noticed at small scales that sculpey is too brittle, so the armature needs stiffening up. So I've put some loose forms on in GS, keeping it thin so I can go over it all with sculpey once it's cured.
I think the pose is right, but otherwise early days...
