bgcdazzler's first ever mini WIP (a confusion of cockups and learnings)

Thanks guys. Rotten: no inspiration, I just started making something and that's where he ended up. While I'm painting I quite like to make sculpts with no great plan in mind - keeps it refreshing and relaxing instead of stressing about getting the 'look' right.

Speaking of which:

a bit more on the latest one: some arms and trousers (the boots and left leg aren't done yet). Again, I don't really know what he will become yet. I've also been painting, but don't have any pics as I'm at work (last day at work today, yay!). I'll update the wiz tonight.

I'm jumping around all over the shop with no real rhyme or reason to it. The axe dude is 54mm, the new guy is more like 70mm. I've also started a little 35mm Orc project, but don't have any pics of that yet.

Main the meantime, here's a bit more wizard. More highlights, and a first pass at the eyes (not too happy with them yet).

Merry Christmas everyone! Who else has eaten their own body weight in mince pies?

bit more messing around on the barbarian type figure. Here's a belt and bits on him:

And for the first time (ever, I think) I've done a removable bit - a sort of ass-cloak with decorations on it. I thought I'd leave it off to make it easier to paint later. Also done a blank for the sword. Apologies for the bad fit: both are only held in place by blue-tac.

Right: enough fiddling about with clay. More wizard next!

You always have a flair for great detailing in the armor and clothes you do. This guy is shaping out so great right now.

I cannot believe how much significantly better your proportions get with each new sculpt...I mean each one is more perfect than the last....you'll eventually hit the most perfect sculpts and I hope at thy point you mass produce because we'd all like a bit of dazzler in our cabinets....

Btw

I'm REALLY digging that wizard the pose it's character and now with the painting your doing it's kicking life right in to him.

Thanks guys, really appreciate the nice words.

I know I promised more wiz painting (and I have done some), but I'm in a bit of a quandary about this one. I added a head/face, and that somehow led to me completely redoing his body. I think it looks better now, a bit more brutish and muscular. The question is: helmet or hair? Helmet? Hair? Or even helmet hair?
All suggestions gratefully received.

Also so started on a fun little addition. Again, whether she is head up looking into his eyes or head back as if unconscious, I'm open to ideas!

For the male hair would show off the great face by framing it, for the female head back so he's either rescued her or taken her which ever way you want to take the story

I think the changes you've made improved an already promising figure. I love the addition of the damsel (I also vote that you put her in a swoon, rather than looking up at the dude). You must, however, add the ass cloak back in. Hopefully it's still just awaiting the paintjob before you attach it!

The eyes on the wizard really provide a focal point. As others have said, the pose is just great. When you're sculpting it yourself, I guess you don't have to worry about casting & fitting several pieces!

Happy New Year everyone! Had a nice couple of days with the kids and the old folks - 4 generations of Dazzlings under one roof. 2017 is already way better than 2016.

Wgs: thanks for the advice sir: I've gone with the hair.

Locutus: I've measured him now and he's 54mm tall. Not a bad guess!

rotten: yes, there are a few items of clothing- all in the best possible taste, of course...

Saint: thanks sir. Don't worry, the ass cloak is safely stowed ready for painting. This is my first attempt at making separate pieces to glue together afterwards, and so far it's not too bad. I imagine it'll get horribly complicated very quickly though!

Right, here's a couple of updates: first up is the wizard. Not much has changed, just added some rope bit in GS over a crease I didn't like in his arm, based the beard and hair in white, and done some preliminary freehand patterns on the hat and cloak. Lots still to do...

and the barbarian: I've added

- necklace
- hair
- patterns on his cuff
- arm bracelet
- arms to the woman
- belt and clothing to the woman
- a hand for holding her up (just basic; needs working up properly)

EDIT: just noticed I put the wrong size in for the barbarian - he's 54mm tall, not 74mm. D'oh!

Great advancements, this is turning more and more interesting with every step.
Make yourself sure that the mini does stand by herself! I mean try to compensate the weight of the lady with the base or we will have a toothless barbarian and a broken arm lady... hehehehe

When You add more details it started to look more dynamic. Like a frozen scene from Conan :).
Maenas - for this barbarian this lady weighs like a feather, he is a badass ;).
